For all you newcomers to this ECNL jungle

Having been down this road, words to the wise...being picked for an ecnl team is not all it is cracked up to be. Truth-CT ecnl teams are not that selective and tend to fill rosters from branches within and with players who after a year or two drop out, are forced out or do not like the platform or can not afford it. Clubs then refill rosters with branch players or disgruntled competing club players who could not make it first so that they each have 25 a team as per max to fill club coffers. Little if no development at these CT ecnl clubs and all comes down to whether your kid is a baller or not. All clubs offer some form of showcase pathway which is an avenue of exposure to college coaches. Colleges do not recruit teams they recruit players so do not pin hopes and dreams on that ecnl badge (it will cost you over 10k a year with travel) as the end to end all. If your kid is not a baller, help manage their expectations as they will not see much play on an ecnl 1 team. Most kids develop real skill by 12 so after that it is all about whether the player wants it or not and actually develops beyond the tricky little step over that works well right now. Only a slim majority of players actually get the golden ticket having actually earned it. These clubs will not do your recruiting for you so be wise and start tracking that now as it will become a full time job by your kids junior year. Only the studs get looks prior to that and high tier D1 schools like to get them locked down by beginning of junior year. You may want to look at the 2021 commit lists when available for CT clubs as a better data indicator of bang for your buck. Not sure past history will apply for each club given affect of COVID moving forward.

Carry a bag to vomit into. The bumpy ride is only half of the ECNL ship show.

There’s a thread somewhere when CFC picked their current 2002 team. It listed the players and the clubs they came from. Would be interesting to dig that up and figure how accurate they were when picking middle school players. Not an exact science

I don’t know those kids but I would hazard a guess that some picked didn’t make it to the finish line and aren’t playing in college.

Good eye opener for the know it middle school Dads posting here all day.

Sorry your kid got cut, hopefully you both learn from the situation.

ECNL stinks. But, it's better than playing poor quality NPL like you would at OW.
