Interesting that no tryout info has been posted for either bucks or delco and no winter ID clinics like bucks has had in the past. Wonder if they are waiting on an announcement about the switch before they schedule tryouts.

The domino effect of an age group change on teams will be very interesting to observe to say the least. I am staying tuned....

I noticed this too. Last year we had 3 ID clinics by now, none are schedule for the foreseeable future and not a peep about tryouts. I hope they move back to grade year. It's a sin these trapped players have to miss out on 8th and 12th grade club seasons with their team.

The 8th grade players miss out for sure. Aren’t the seniors wrapped in with the juniors?

We will know within a few weeks if it’s back to grade level. This will benefit most teams as they can add back some of the older August - December players of the older teams.

Can’t wait to see the fireworks this sets off. I really hope it happens should never have been changed, as the birth year age group does not benefit the kids. Here’s to hoping they go back to school age groups. And that all the clubs have fair and open tryouts - and no back room deals!

The opposite will now happen. It will be harder to make the team if a kid was on the secondary or “B” team. The open spots will now go to the older August - December kids from the older team.

As long as the tryouts are fair and open then it is what it is. The BEST kids should make the team Period. No parents should have their thumb on the scale.

You realize that coaches also look at development potential. Kid may show up raw but they see something great in the raw talent. So don't think a kid you see as not good won't be later on. Keep your thumb off the keyboard should this happen.

Not everybody comes from a soccer family. Some are just athletic and want to grow within the sport.

All anyone is asking for is FAIR AND OPEN TRYOUTS! No one should be against those - and you are right COACHES should pick their players not the parents. If a COACH sees something in a kid by all means the COACH should take that player. No team should be picked in someone’s living room BEFORE the coach even sees them play.

You would be surprised how often this happens. We have been to many clubs and have seen this many times. Core group is already picked and then at tryouts they select a few others that are new and have potential and would work well with the core.

I’m willing to bet that when this happens the coach at least has seen the players actually play and not relied on a parent or two to pick his team. And also willing to bet it happens when a team already exists, not one that is forming at the u13 level and should have been a new team.

The coach or coaches have most likely seen those player play before. Coaches scout players and teams.

He didn’t and that was why it was very obvious that a back room deal occurred there were at least three that should never have made the team, and that was obvious to the okayers, parents and coaches from the very first practice. And much better talent was turned away and didn’t come back.

How would you know he didn’t? Coaches don’t always admit they scout.
