The same reason why kids do club lacrosse, AAU basketball, elite hockey, concert band, tap dancing, etc... For the love of it and may be to see how far then can go. If D1 scholarships and professional leagues were the end game for everyone, you wouldn't have many club teams any more. Soccer clubs aren't training the next olympic athletes.

Too funny this thread has become a little microcosm of all that is TS. People ******* on other because they feel that they are being pissed on themselves. Why do you assume anyone's kid sat on the bench? Is that what happened to yours? Is that what this is all about. It is pretty clear from your past couple of posts that you are doing a pretty good job of judging yourself so might not want to be so quick to point fingers.

The D3 level is what the D3 level is. If that is what you and your kid want that's fine. However it's not everybody's idea of the perfect fit. There is no money available for soccer and generally speaking they are all very small colleges with very narrow academic concentrations. Those alone are three factors which make the level completely unattractive for a lot of kids but yet if you read what nimrods like this guy write, there is only one possible decision, to place academics before soccer, which when you get to their bottom line means they feel that everyone has to pick the one of these ultra small D3 level colleges and pay the full freight for it. In fact they are so obsessed about defending that decision they can't even fathom that other families have other opportunities which give them wholly different decisions to make. The comment that I would make to them is if they want to complain about other's not being open minded about their decision they might want to reflect just how closed minded they are being about other's decisions.

I never said anyone had to do one or the other. What I did say is it is a family/student decision and what is best for the kid in all aspects for fit should only be judged by the family.

What I have seen a lot here is the D1 vs D3 debate trying to not only devalue the choice but the talent of the player as well.

Do what is best for your kid but don't ignore all the pros and cons of your options. Your kid has to live with the decision and nobody on this boards gives a fukc how it turns out one way or the other.

What won't change is just how pathetic and petty you are, BTNT. D3 isn't the right fit for your younger kid. No one would ever suggest otherwise. It was the right fit for your older one and 80% of your participation here is your denial of that, your need to justify to yourself your awful, oppressive, and actually abusive decisions, and your desperate need to violate everyone you can who ever says a positive word about a positive D3 experience.

Quite while you are ahead nimrod you are embarrassing yourself. Everyone's got you pegged here. Here's what we all can figure out. Your kid sucked and everyone around you knew it but you. They laughed at you and your kid behind your back talking about how delusional you were. You couldn't hear any of the whispers because you were so busy counting coaches on the sidelines. It was only after you realized that those coaches were more interested in the goalposts than your daughter that the tune changed and it all became about the education. Now you are the D3 champion here on Talking-Soccer but once upon a time you had the email address of every ACC coach in your contact list. Sux to suck.

Wrong on all counts. Have another drink. Your presence here, and your sign-ins as the benevolent sage, are offensive. You are offensive. Deep down you are nothing but a loser, and an abusive loser at that.

Nailed nothing, only showed ignorance. I hope your child is happy pursuing your dream. It doesn't sound like he/she even has a choice. Father knows best.

No one mentioned D1 or D3 on this thread but you. It's about life as a college freshman. That's probably going to be the time your child recognizes that she had better start making her own decisions in life.

I would bet that you've never even kicked a ball in your life.

See below for an interesting bit from a D3 soccer player about her college experience, both in soccer and in academics:

                    http://mitathletics.com/sports/w-soc...-_Morgan_Moroi

Having an experience like hers is why many players choose to play D3.

In recent years one or two MIT soccer women per year go to med school right from college.

No doubt they are exceptional women and exceptional students. Why is there an assumption that this doesn't also happen in the D1 ranks? Didn't a women on the national team just retire to go to med school?

Geez, for someone who is almost never here and when he is signs in sounds almost disinterested and so neutral in offering his advice, you sure are (again) out of the gate here on TS mighty early in the morning posting on multiple threads. I guess the addiction does continue. Look in the mirror pal. You are very, very sick.

Enough already. If you have something to offer about an actual experience playing in college -- great. Otherwise -- quit posting in this thread.

I think you miss the points of the post.

                            1. Combining strong academics with playing soccer is a regular occurrence at D3 (and Ivy schools). The soccer does not prevent the players from achieving their academic goals.

                            2. The woman illustrated is not an outlier in top tier D3. The post mentioned that 1 or two go right to Medical School each year from MIT. My daughter also attends a strong academic D3; the three seniors on her team: phd program, Medical School; tech start-up.

Although there are many D1 soccer players who also accomplish much academically, the information shared by BTDT and others emphasizes how much a job being a D1 player is. How compromises need to be made.

My daughter's D3 schedule is about 3-4 hours a day for soccer, 6 days a week, plus travel to away games. She says most of the women work for a substantial portion of the bus rides when they are long.

Except that D1 teams in this day and age are doing more flying than driving in university vans. The dynamics are just very different at that level and as the parent you need to understand that your kid getting that education they were promised is quite a bit more involved than just reading on the team plane. That's a given for any serious student. What is widely variable however is the amount of academic support given to offset the days away from class. Even if your kid is super motivated they could literally end up having to teach themselves if you are not aware of what is going on.

Like everything else in life, the build up can be the best part. Reality is a different story. College is such a new experience, throw in soccer (D1 down to JC) and it is a mixed bag of fun, excitement, fear, exhaustion, learning.... You don't always get what you think you will and sometimes even when you do, you realize it is nothing like you thought it would be. I hope more of the u-little parents read this and realize that they are pushing their babies at a crazy pace for what might not even be what they want in 8 years. Enjoy the childhood.... Goes by too fast and there are no do-overs in life. You get one chance to be a kid. Love the game, play the game. But don't live by the game alone...
Great comment. The kids should go to a school they would love without soccer and it's true...it can be hard.
