Hey how about St Marys scoring 2 goals on Jesuit. Guess they lost their good defense this year. Hoping west Salem beats you and puts you back in your place!

You people are never happy. Win a game by 8-0 and Jesuit girls are bullies. Give even playing time and all the sudden they aren't any good at defense.

You really need to get a life.

Golf clap for equal playing time.

Yes, it will. The more clubs across the country that leave GDA, the easier it becomes and the harder ecnl becomes. There just aren’t enough top players to support two elite national leagues.

Meanwhile Oregon Club offerings are still of no consequence or value. Same as it ever was.

              Always a silver lining.

When you say top club do you mean Slammers, Michigan Hawks, Eclipse, PDA, Stars of Mass, etc...

No those clubs stayed or returned to ECNL and they are the most quoted. More like strong clubs that are in the GDA including: FC Dallas, Tophat, San Diego Surf, So CA Blues, Real CO, San Jose Earthquakes & CA Thorns both whom have pulled from the 6 No. CA ECNL teams’ rosters, UT Royals- AZ (Blackhawks kids moved to this), Beach FC, Cincinnati Dev. Academy, Real So CA, SC del Sol, OC Surf, Penn Fusion, Solar Soccer Club, So Ca Blues and LA Galaxy. A strong addition this year Albion Las Vegas (pulled from NV Heat rosters) and Seattle Reign rosters show with an easy check that they picked up Crossfire Premier players this season, though I think there was player movement in all directions in Seattle this year with 5 ECNL teams now and the 1 GDA Reign team.

Thorns are scheduled to play games against the above collection of GDA teams 7 times in regular league play this year. TBD on showcase games. Will most Thorns teams get their butts kicked, probably, but they are playing against a high level. Most are home games this year, only three flights to travel for league games, they coming to Portland which is nice.

Oregon stood a chance for some age groups to compete outside the state when the stars aligned talent, some years ago, back when our best girls were not spread across three leagues as they are now- USYS, ECNL and GDA teams.

It is too bad because our population is only going up, OR teams should be more and more capable of competing. However, with our talent diluted across three leagues and teams, we are just shooting this new population growth advantage in the foot.

This is not to say in any way that ECNL does not have strong players or clubs in it too. They do. It is simply to stomp out the prior posters ridiculous sarcasm that somehow top clubs are not in the GDA. Many many did leave ECNL and are still in the GDA and in my experience this summer with my kid in various soccer camps, the repeated answer I got from players and their parents from So CA, AZ and TX teams- three top soccer areas, was the vast amount of talent in those three key soccer areas are staying on GDA teams. This could change, keep watching.

Across the US that answer probably varies by state, by age and team. We all know dilution is a problem. It affects the whole soccer landscape now.

I doubt that, at least for the u19s. Although the rosters are sparse, the U19 Thorns beat Lamorinda 5-0 with like 15 players. There are several players listed on the thorns roster that are playing public high school games so they won’t be allowed back. However, Thorns did just fine without them. The good thing about only having 13-16 players is everyone gets a lot of minutes. With the gda subbing rules, this works out nicely. Last year Thorns finished 3rd from the bottom, they should be top third this year since many other gda teams lost their best committed players to enjoying high school and a life for their last year.

The u17 thorns lost 4-0 to Lamorinda, only have 13 on the roster and were dead last place last year as well. Will be bottom dwellers again but the same players stayed on with the Thorns again for this year so they must be happy. Wins aren’t everything.

Do the u16s even have a team? They were part of the poor performing 03/04 team of last year and the better 04s played up on the 03 team this past weekend. Low numbers and low quality doesn’t bode well for the u16s.

The u15s did fairly well last year, have 16 on the roster and tied Lamorinda 1-1. They could do well this year.

We should all hope our only gda teams do well. Any Oregon team doing well against out of state teams helps the overall view of Oregon players so Go Thorns Academy! Same for Ecnl when they start up! Same for Jesuit HS, who is a top rated girls high school soccer team in the nation. Proud to have an Oregon team up there!

GDA still dominate South Cal and Texas. Two of the most important areas for youth soccer talent pool.

U14’s won both of their games easily. Many talented players on this squad.

Agree with you on Tx and Az (only starting this year though) but according to South Cal soccer people, it’s split pretty evenly even in South Cal and no one is happy with the dilution and not playing each other. With the traffic down there, it’s more of a geographic decision since ecnl vs gda is a toss up anyway. Regardless, Thorns gda doesn’t play any of those good teams from South Cal, AZ & TX. At showcases, bottom tier Thorns are matched up with other bottom tier teams. In Oregon, the majority of top players are in ecnl and oysa. Just like in NorCal, New England and other areas where ecnl rules.

Regardless, it doesn’t really matter in Oregon. Oregon’s top girls can play in any league they want with the same results. The not-tippy top players should look for the best team and coach at their particular age group in their area, regardless of league. Currently, most of those girls at most age groups are choosing ecnl and oysa teams. Just the way it is here.

Thanks mom. Talk to us when you play some good teams.

True. We have friends in SoCal in both gda & ecnl. Pretty evenly split at the older ages at least. Both sides down there want to have their own elite SoCal league (whatever the patch) so they can just play each other except for showcases and cup play. Doesn’t make sense for them to have to travel.

Gda matches up like level teams for showcases so our Oregon gda only ever plays other bottom dwellers in showcases so it doesn’t make any difference to Oregon if gda is good in SoCal. They did just lose the best gda in their northwest league, Crossfire Premier. Thorns will win more but the competition is way less now. Still think gda in Oregon works just as good for some players It’s good to have 3 leagues with almost the same opportunities.

Legit makes no difference where those teams are as any team in Oregon loses to their B teams 9/10x

                                This is fact.

Let them scam you and try to play cool by association when they are a joke.

Those teams if they ever got matched up to an Oregon team would think it’s a disappointment and a waste. Ecnl is a scam. Da is a propaganda lie fest. USYS is a watered down disappointment until you get to the national league.
