Unfortunately, it's a CALIFORNIA Thorns player on the u18 national team. So I guess we know which Thorns teams are the junior varsity.

On the contrary, they are doubtless honored to be allied with the two-time NWSL champion Portland Thorns, who are, with little doubt, the best professional women's soccer team in the United States. Even if the local academy team isn't stellar (this is Oregon, after all), the Thorns' first team is simply the best there is without needing a passport.

That’s some impressive development from the Thorns/DA!!! Not even around for a year yet and their world class program has delivered national level talent! Truly impressive.

Women's collegiate soccer is a niche sport as well. Perhaps it's not fair, but that's the way it is.
At any rate, some of the local ECNL honks, trapped in the bubble of local youth sports rivalries, may fail to realize just how respected the Thorns organization is nationally.
And unlike the men's side, where there is the potential award of a lucrative contract at the end of the tunnel; girls and women have no such hopes. Success, there, is a D1 scholarship or a pro gig that helps to pay the bills, but doesn't do so completely.
