Recruiting top players and kids to Iona will not be nearly as easy as it was at Yale (and not much more money for them to give despite athletic scholarships now being available to him). How many does Iona have, 6?

Duh. He already has seen CT players. Common sense, no genius required

His market is average students and average players whose parents can pay a decent amount of the tuition. Plenty of those in the region.

Some important facts that are missing in this thread. Todd Plourde would not have left Yale except for the fact that Rudy Meredith, their 24 year head coach, resigned. The coaching circle at Yale was a really tight circle and flexed a great deal of muscle. The team had four golden-tickets (approximately) per year and had that kind of pull with the admissions office. When Victoria Chun came into the fold, there was a complete purge in this program that had gotten way too comfortable with recruiting deals.

What does any of this have to do with Plourde? First, he was never in the frame as a head coach for a program like Yale in the Ivy League. Second, his recruitment skills were strengthened by the Yale name; his personal skills were weak. He dangled golden tickets in front of many students over many years and made deals behind the scenes without actually saying where the admissions passes were allocated.

I know of one player in the early 2010s timeframe that made the team from Long Island based on her Dad's contributions to the university - and yes, this was a Long Island player from a top club at the time who did not play except in extra time after the results were decided.

Plourde has never been a top flight coach. Expecting major upgrades at Iona in the short term will be a waste of time. If you are considering Iona, be wary of this coach.

Sour grapes ? I’ve talked to several people on Long Island at different clubs and have never heard a bad word regarding TP. The guy will be a 100% improvement compared to the last 3 HC’s at Iona. He knows the game, seems to know thre recruiting area and my everyone’s account other than yours is a good guy. Sorry your daughter didn’t get a “golden ticket” to Yale.

He has strong relationships with PR, RM and RA all the ECNL and DA clubs in the tri state area he will be able to draw a few players from each of the LI clubs plus N.J. and CT. I can’t imagine any head coach being worse that last place in the MAAC like they were last year and 10th the 3 years before that.

                  2018 - 1-7-2 in MAAC 3-14-2 overall
                  2017 - 2-7-1 in MAAC 3-14-3 overall
                  2016 - 2-7-1 in MAAC 2-14-2 overall
                  2015 - 2-8-0 in MAAC 2-16-0 overall

                  Last 4 years 7-29-4 MAAC 10-58-7 overall

It will takes a few years before you can judge a new coach taking over a program like this. 5 years from now he will have all his recruits in. Until then he’s dealing with the former coaches mistakes that led her to be fired midsesson.

lol facts. It's TS! Take all "facts" with heavy doses of salt. Will he be great? No. Will he be an improvement? Definitely. A lot of coaches can keep jobs for decades if they do just "fine", maybe win a conference title every few years, don't cause any issues. His biggest struggle will be learning how to sell the school. He's never had to do that before.

That’s a great point. Selling Iona will be difficult but for the young lady that wants to stay close to home and the proximity to NYC is a huge draw.

They never heard a bad word about me either, can i coach there next? More importantly, did his name make people hear trumpets and harps? Negatory on that one too.

Plenty of better choices than Iona .... for an education certainly as well as soccer. Ever been to Iona? A teeny little campus in the middle of a crummy little 'town'.
