They are not giving any refunds. Just credits if you will join next year.

They only owe you something if you will give it back to them. If you need it for food or rent or utilities ...too bad

They came give a refund to oldest age group or they have to give it to everyone.

Guess they can't all be perfect. Does this now show everyone that EVERY club is pay to play?? WC - no different.

More of an indicator that status quo has been reached. People are "happy" wit the pecking order. Some turnover is really positive. Kids are not meant to develop at the same rate. I would not read that much into teams that stay together.

We are talking about what they are doing for the U18/19's who are graduating. They are providing scholarships instead of refunds to those players, and the question is why not just a straight refund?

If they acknowledge that those players get a refund then they would have to give all the players a refund.

They said in the link provided that those players would be receiving a scholarship paid out in September in the amount comparable to the credits being received at the younger age groups. So they are making a payment, and the question is why do it as a scholarship instead of a straight refund?

59 players committed to a wide range of colleges, including Ivies like Brown and Columbia, strong academic D3s like Amherst, Williams and Tufts, and of course strong D1s like Rutgers, to go along with the Montclair States and Maywood Colleges. Overall a decent list.

Because then they need to do it for all the age groups. lots of families would prefer a straight refund

Not sure why they would need to do it for all the age groups. The graduating seniors have no opportunity to return to the club, so it's pretty clear they need to do something different for that age group. In the end, for those graduating they are writing a check and sending it.

I think it to avoid getting into a situation where other families that are also not returning to the club, for lots of reasons, not just aging out, also will then want a refund instead of a credit.

True but that is a very local list of schools, all of which could have been accomplished without the absurd cost of ECNL. Good schools, yes many of them are. Big national powerhouses from the far reaches of the USA, no. It just goes to show that this idea that ECNL is a one way ticket to UNC or UCLA is totally false fopr 99% of the players, just like it was for GDA.

The majority of players at UNC or UCLA are from ECNL, just not from the Northeast Conference.

never understand the need to justify a list. Kids are all different. If they got in to the schools they wanted, good for them. If the list is supposed to reflect really good soccer, then people can debate it. Point is that the soccer machine seems to need all the PR it can get.

There are very few elite players. PERIOD. Players who are truly nationally recruited are rare. The magic comes in making parents believe that playing nationally equals being nationally recruited.

It takes a certain type of kid who wants to go across coast. I do Laugh at the UNC references. Almost implies that you need to be a great soccer player to play there ;)
