Good education and prestige for job and grad school application, but mediocre soccer. Please don't try to blow smoke up anyone's ass that the Ivy leagues have great soccer teams. They don't. Kids who go to the Ivy League schools do so for the education.

That said I would not let my kid turn down an Ivy or Ivy-like opportunity (many out there in all divisions) because he made soccer the priority.

That said, one has to self evaluate their own academic potential. To struggle and fail at the highest level may not worth the time, money, and emotional turmoil. Reach schools are great, and using sports to get their is appropriate, as long as your kid has the confidence and potential to succeed in the classroom.

Thanks BTNT!!! You are an incredibly positive support to the youth in Massachusetts! How did the the Trailblazers fare yesterday? Saw the men handled Green Mountain easily.

Which real world are you referring to? I love when someone either up high, down low, or in the middle claims to know anything about the other's "world". So many different worlds exist, all of which are real but not easily applicable to all. The silver spoons keep their spoons and wondering why anyone knows a world otherwise. Those who have no spoons know what it is like to have little, but seen to get everything else for free. Those is the middle.....well.....they are slowly disappearing.
What world are you referring to?

... and do so all while holding down a full time job. Soccer at the college level is a huge commitment. You all would be wise to factor that into your estimates of academic abilities and perhaps tone down a bit what you think might be possible.

The reality shown by those stats is the overwhelming majority of the kids in this area don't go to top one of the tier "wow" schools. Once you get by those select few schools the actual differences in the educations is actually quite minimal so all this talk about picking educations based upon the school's academic ranking is just window dressing for parental ego.

Your obsession with this theme is "just window dressing for parental" insecurity. Don't you have a MASCAC game or scrimmage to be paying attention to?

What do you mean by "select few?" Ivies? ivies & few NESCACs? Include all NESCACs?

Keep in mind the stats show about 35% of D1 athletes aren't playing by junior year for a whole host of reasons (injury, cut, can't take it any more, burnout). Academics. Academics. Academics.

Once you get beyond the top 50 in the academic rankings you start to lose the perceived benefits of name recognition and the differences between schools really starts level out.

... and your obsession with trying to elevate the importance of a bunch of 2nd tier LACs is equally noted. Don't you have a light switch you need to turn on and off a few thousand more times?

Please provide a link to the stars you are referring to. Turnover is a fact of life on D1 programs but this would appear to be a gross over statement and speaks to a certain level of bias against scholarship athletes. If it really is all "academics", "academics", "academics" why in the world are we even bothering with soccer?
