    Last weekend
Crossfire ecnl girls teams 6 wins and 1 draw against pacnw.

But truthfully, I am just glad the kids are playing games again.

What is shameful is an adult posting out of their rear about someone in order to prop up a dying club in order to bring down another. Crossfire is competitive and not for everyone. 100% of his girls play college soccer, most D1. It might not be for you or your daughter. I have been around Billy for years and don't see anything different from him that I see from any other coaches in terms of yelling etc.

**looks like tryout time upcoming with this thread being rebooted.
His teams are good but not sure they’d beat the Reign 04 team at all let alone 10-0 and 05 looks like it would be as competitive as XF’s games with any of the 05 ECNL teams (which is to say not very but also not 10-0).

You haven’t been around enough coaches if you haven’t seen any difference in terms of yelling. You don’t have to look far — JB says relatively little over the course of a game, and she’s a plenty successful coach too. It’s an interstate pedagogical issue: I suppose his philosophy is that kids will ultimately internalize his directions such that they’ll become instinctive when they need to be. A lot of other thoughtful coaches would say this kind of joy sticking breaks down when the speed of play picks up (as it will when they are playing teams from so cal let alone moving on to their D1 programs) because they will need to anticipate what to do rather than think of the direction (he’s literally yelling press, dribble, go on, etc at every moment of the game with his 05’s).

A separate issue, apart from the high school thing (which is mostly just ironic has XF girls dropped DA in large part because their kids wanted to play hs) and the joysticking, is roster size: the 05’s rostered something like 27, a number of whom were pushed down to A and others who play very little. Doesn’t seem good for anyone.

        none

Wiskel certainly doesn't have a monopoly on joystick coaching. Plenty of others to go around. Probably shorter discussion is which coaches are NOT joystick coaches. Baumgardt stands out as one that does not at all.

Funny you should say XF "dropped" when US Soccer pulled the plug. Bernie happily went for both to capitalize on the market and let players choose within his club, just business. WRT ECNL players, they weren't forbidden but told that they would be benched if they played HS, odd since playing HS was a feature of ECNL. I get coaches not wanting players doing HS as it provides more opportunity for injury but it's part of being an athlete in HS...

It’s hard to keep track of time with the pandemic and all but XF dropped GDA a full year before US Soccer pulled the plug. Their doing so, along with some
other top clubs, probably contributed to DA’s demise.

A number of top players from XF are playing HS and probably aren’t being benched. The club has never been shy about having different rules (guaranteed playing time, etc) for its top players.

Jason Farrell does not yell too much from the sidelines. He and Justi both played pro -- maybe that gives them a better understanding of how counterproductive it is to constantly direct players.

Yup, totally spaced timelines, apology for incorrect statement. XF was given a two-year pass by US Soccer to have both DA and ECNL, after which they needed to chose one or the other.
XF dropped DA when that period expired. Not sure that we'll ever know what led to the demise given the suddenness and internal surprise at the decision.

Agreed - experience has shown that the starting 11 seem to be exempt from most everything as long as they continue to produce.

I assume all this pain and effort is to be recruited to play in college. I wonder how many
of these 27 will be committed in a few years.

FACT, thank goodness for Andy Schmetzer who DEVELOPED both the 04 and 05 team to be handed to a complete jerk off. This idiot wouldn’t have touched either team if Andy was still a coach. Kind of funny how parts of last weeks game are edited probably the part where he was calling the Pac Northwest moms fat and that they’re going to break the fence.

Mark Metzger could coach both teams and they would win. Billy doesn’t even recruit his players, he has 2 moms that are better than any D1 recruiters.

Wait...hold up...Billy was calling the moms from PAC fat? And this was caught on video? LOL...not surprising but would love to see it.

Lol. Come on. Andy doesn't walk on water. He is a good guy, but he was too nice to the girls
he had been with since like U10. He is actually pretty shy guy, but a big heart.
XF recruited many girls to the 04 and 05 and at U16/17 you see where they are at.

Many of the original girls have faded and can not compete anymore with the recruited.
I don't blame XF for the 27 girls on the 05. Hello? Stupid parents? The badge is more
important than actually being able to play minutes or be recruited. So, more power to XF.

Mark is a good coach, but his experience on "Wall Street" made him a little loopy at times.

Billy Goat Gruff - yeah he bleats and bellows. So what? You can walk away and join
another team. Princess Pea farts more loudly than he yells.

LOL. The two mom recruiters? Haha, they should really focus on their kids, instead trying
to build the dream team. I love to tell these two wine moms (after my kid is recruited, of course) that coaches recruit the player, not the team. So thanks, mom!

Agreed. The 05 team played hard for Andy, and they excelled & have retained players. “Bleating” BW seems intent on putting his stamp on the team with new talent, and not using the core talent of the team.

Today they got solidly beat by the SU 05 ECNL team and none of the Crossfire players really seemed to care. Kids need to be patted on the back occasionally

I love posts like this. Have we not all learned something about posting an "I hate you coach" thread. We have never played or know Billy but we have played for other controversial coaches, some we hated and some we loved. Here is a simple truth. Coaches have styles that may be beneficial for some and detrimental for others. For every person who hates the coach and says that coach destroyed my kids future ability to play for Real Madrid, there is an opposite person that says that coach is the sole reason my kid is playing for Real Madrid. This is not limited to this forum either. I hear it every weekend from fellow parents griping about coaches. Get over yourself and your kid and realize that when you or your kid don't like a coach, or vice versa, realize a coach is not invested in your kid, the coach is not specifically out to get you (unless they are....bbbbuuuuuwwwwwaaaaaaaahahahahahaha, best attempt at internet evil laugh). Maybe, just maybe, it is just your opinion and your kid doesn't mesh well with the coaches style. Leave the team, leave the club, do something other than blind commitment to a club and hope it will get better with a coach change.
