    Sunset on Sunrise SC?

Sunrise was never a club noted for their player development. However, they were great at leveraging their connections to schools and marketing themselves as the top option for showcase teams. With this ability they put together a number of high quality girls teams and provided a focal point for South Florida talent. Unfortunately, as many of you already know, this operational model is no longer valid due to the incursion of ECNL and GDA leagues into the state.

Sunrise tried to get ECNL and was turned down. Those franchises went to Weston and Boca. Later when Weston and Boca jettisoned ECNL they were still unable to land a franchise. Instead, US Club chose a non-existent startup club instead of Sunrise S.C. With Boca losing their DA status, Sunrise attempted to pair with them to land another ECNL franchise. Again . . . no dice.

So what is Sunrise to do? Will they simply continue to play in the Regional Leagues and attend the usual showcase events they have in the past? Even though those showcase events have greatly diminished in value (Value, not cost) as college coaches spend their recruiting budget more and more at GDA and ECNL showcase events? Or will the get on their hands and knees and beg to FC Prime for a partnership or agreement to allow their players access to ECNL leagues? It seems like there are only two options remaining for the Sting. Bow to FCP and seek whatever terms they can get or continue to slip into irrelevance with their outdated model.

What will it be Sunrise? How desperate are you? Will pride and hubris get in the way of what is best for the club and players?

The reality is that there is no way Sunrise and FCP could work together because there is not enough money to go around for all parties.

Why not? There would be B and maybe C teams if sunrise and prime merged. ECNL affords higher registration fees than sunrise currently charges. Not sure your statement makes any sense. It really comes down to a proper negotiation for a fair split of the pot. Sunrise gets the ecnl badge which has an intrinsic value that sunrise can’t obtain otherwise and prime gets players , coaches and college contacts. Not to mention, by combining, they are essentially creating an ecnl monopoly in broward and dade. I doubt ecnl would grant an additional club ecnl if there was a merger. The sunrise/prime merger would create a lot of growth for both clubs, rivaling Weston in size I believe after a couple of years. Seems like a no brainer to me. Just gotta our aside their egos to make it happen. That is the hard part.

There is no way in hell that happens. It makes too much sense, and both parties have massive egos.
