So for months and months we have been hearing about how this April vote would now close the loopholes of backdoor recruiting communications, and players calling coaches. Are you saying that this information is incorrect, and those activities are still allowed? I find this hard to believe.

Not the poster you are replying to, but I believe the NCAA is expected to vote on the new rules (no backdoor communication) at the end of April with them going into immediate effect.

So, for the next few weeks the old rules apply.

So yes, that’s what we all thought. Not sure what that other guy is talking about then.

I've looked everywhere and cannot see anything but hearsay that explains how they are going to close down the communication loopholes. Please post if you have something even near official. As it stands right now, nothing has been done to close those loopholes.

I’ve heard two contradictory statements. Some think loopholes closing will be enough to push recruiting back a year or two. Others think new loopholes will be exploited and nothing will change. What happened in the softball community? If recruiting moved back there it probably will with soccer too.

and didn't they close it up for LAX also? You'd think all the sports should have the same rules, except football and basketball which seems to do whatever they want.

Anyway, until they vote, if they're even voting, the loopholes remain open. Last year the voted in April and they went into effect June 1.

Hard to say what it will mean. Some clubs already announcing 03s that have committed.

Of course they are. It's tryout season and there will be movement because of GDA turmoil

How is this happening though? If college coaches can’t talk to club coaches or a player or their family, how is a commitment happening?

I don't know about lax rules. With soccer the player can call the coach but the coach can't call the player. Club coaches can act as intermediaries as well. Those are the loopholes supposedly being voted on. Question is can it or will it ever be free of loopholes,?

                        Not the op

A verbal commitment doesn’t really mean anything. A player can verbally commit anytime and then de-commit later too. Happens all the time. NCAA rules are pretty clear http://www.ncaa.org/student-athletes/future/recruiting

Did I miss the part where only 4 sports are important to the NCAA (Baseball, Basketball, Football and Men's Ice Hockey) and those sports can do whatever they please because they can actually be money makers for some schools? Funny how the rule is so detrimental to soccer and other sports, but the players in these sports apparently cant be harmed by earlier and far different recruiting rules. Hmmm, makes you wonder what the motivation behind these changes actually is.
