There are many girls that are fine giving up high school soccer & other high school sports in order to play subsidized GDA. The boys have successfully been doing it for years now.
Just think, the players that become the new high school stars with the GDA players gone are going to have a blast too. GDA, Ecnl or club will all work out great for everyone, with the exception of players #14-25 on GDA and, to a lesser degree, players 16-25 on Ecnl. Everyone else will get plenty of opportunities so pick your path & enjoy.

How many players will be on a roster?
As a combined age group, players are encouraged to play up. Clubs will have a number of players that they will move freely among age groups within their Academy program, depending on the developmental needs of the indvidual player. The projected pool would equate to 16-23 players per age group for a maximum 92 full-time players amongst the four age groups (U-14, U-15, U-16/17, and U-18/19).
Therefore it will be players #16-23 on GDA who will be affected the most.

US Soccer says try out fees prohibited. Thorns are charging a very large fee.
US Soccer says minimum required 4 trainings per week. Thorns say only 3.
US Soccer says no high school activities. Thorns say maybe.
Assumuption is that they might rally once they get a chance to review the rules and have some time.

Thorns might be playing in the GDA league but isn't following the GDA posted rules/program in the least. Wish they were. Thorns could easily take 30 per roster and only play the top 11 all game. They aren't following the other "rules" so why would they follow the 25% start rule? There is obviously no accountability for the Thorns to do anything as prescribed by USDA. Thorns gets to do whatever it wants. Heard that's keeping the existing starters and playing them all game every game. Players 12-23 or ?? should worry big time.

No, max 2 or 3 for Thorns. Prohibited from charging a tryout fee? No, Thorns is charging $125. No other high school sports? No, Thorns says sure, maybe, it's not like we're going to be busy with development soccer or anything. Only one game per week? No, Thorns will do double headers. Maintain optimum development of at least 4 trainings to 1 game ratio? No, Thorns will have 2 or 3 trainings to 2 games ratios.

Are you a coach or club board member afraid of potentially losing players?
Are you a parent concerned about your DD's team mates possibly opting to find another option?
Or are you just a bitter person, ready to lash out at anything outside of your own comfort zone?

However, the GDA has some really interesting pieces: there are a bunch of high and mighty absolutes from the Federation as to how a team/league should be run pronounced by bureaucrats. One could certainly ask for the empirical basis for their absolutism; however, they are some coaches who genuinely believe in them. Fine.
No daughter in the ECNL, just genuinely dislike the Timbers.

Yet, the GDA as rolled out and in this case with respect to the Thorns, seems to be deviated mightily from many of those "rules".
So, really there are many, many reasons to dislike the Thorns Academy.

In spite of all that I do not like or support what academy has done so far. It seems like stereotypical bait and switch. Promise 4 practices a week, deliver 2-3. Promise one game per weekend, deliver double headers. Promise a new and improved development philosophy...and I see absolutely nothing different or better than what my DD's team is doing. Academy players may be better. They may win more games. But it's the same old same old wrapped in a shiny new package. As a consumer that bothers me even though it doesn't directly impact me. Does that answer your question?

Who really cares if it's 3 or 4 practices per week?
