NYCSL Switching to full year registration - Cash grab?

NYCSL may be hurting for cash because they are now registering teams for the full year like EDP does, with all the money for both seasons owed up front of course.

How many clubs are only going to play half the year (other than HS aged teams)? Who cares if they do it, particularly if they're biggest competitor does it and clubs don't have an issue with it?

It's one of the (few) things that my club had a problem with EDP. This is going to make it more likely that we switch over to EDP since they are both going to have the same annoyance of having to collect the full year money up front.

US Club Soccer under pressure from GDA and National League totally screwed NPL leagues. In 2 years they went from being the "2nd most competitive" league to 4th.

By expanding ECNL to have clubs with 2 teams and adding ECNLR - now NPL is the 5th league in pecking order, no matter where in the US you live.

If you are putting npl over ecnlr that doesn't make sense.

Absolutely. Even if you think there are 2 NPLs - some for ECNL clubs and ones like EDP NPL or NyCSL. Now the northeast NPL is ECNLR and instantly way above the other NPL divisions.

Securing teams for a year. Very smart.

Not so smart. Two of our NYPL teams are switching due to the change. The reasoning being is that if they are going to be forced to pay for the full year up front no matter what, they might as well switch over to the superior league.

                    What is the superior league?

                      Was comparing EDP to NYPL.

My club splits the player registration fees between fall and spring to lessen the amount of money parents have to layout up front. EDP being full year doesn't allow us to split those fees and was a hardship for some parents so some teams that were considering the switch last year stuck with NYPL. Now with NYPL going the same route, two of those teams will be playing EDP instead because it's better competition.

i see a lot of mediocre Li teams heading to edp....I foresee edp becoming LIJ/NYClub in a few years.
