more than what we have in MA?

    Hi all -

Been in the game a while and always read the forum, however never registered.

I help run (currently run) a local men's team that has been a round a long time and still playing in a local amateur league. In addition, have partnered with local youth soccer (town) and a local club (small) to develop a strategic partnership. With that said, we are always faced with the same problem as generations have changed and people come and go.

** I pose the question to everyone - why don't we have more in MA? **

With the NPSL and USL we have a tiny presence in the area of people coming together and forming TRUE collaborations to work together - clubs come and go but it seems that finding people with the same drive and interest is so hard!

Spend a ton of time reading and chatting with people across the country such as Stockade FC - who was founded by Dennis Crowley - founder of Foursquare. Also, Chattanooga FC who made a huge announcement yesterday.

    Would this spark anyone's interest?

Reference points here and GREAT reads:

    Stockade FC -

    Thanks -

So you want to crowdfund a soccer team so everyone can share in the misery?

Do some reading from the CT board. The NE is a brutal market for soccer. They've already had one team fold (Elm City, even though they won the title their first year out). Now another group is trying to get another going in Hartford, but that may or may not happen (or succeed)

I wouldn't say share in misery - I would say invest time in something that is enjoyed by a collective group. If that is the perspective, then one shouldn't be involved. However, appreciate the commentary - it is interesting to see that this is one's perspective and I wonder why. Personally, I enjoy challenge and "building". Might be unrealistic - but still curious.

I do believe New England could be harsh, but that may be b/c there has never been the "right" collective group and operation run as a business as opposed to winning. A lot of the teams have associated winning with money and recognition, where I do not agree with this. Not at the Amateur level where there is no $$ associated with winning. Rather - $$ comes from partnership and great branding.

Just looking for commentary around MA.

        Cheers!

In fact, what *is* going on with the Kingston Stockade? I know last year didn't go as well as they hoped.

Black Rock had a pdl team last year; don't know what they are doing this summer.

The soccer landscape is strewn with the bodies of failed leagues and clubs. Not enough interest or money. Not just a US issue either, you can find it everywhere. The Revs operate in MLS and USLC and are barely making it financially. Without someone with deep pockets like Kraft they would have been toast long ago. NWSL Breakers failed after a few seasons. No need for 3rd or 4th division teams in crowded sports markets like eastern MA IMHO.

Why don’t you form a team and show it can thrive here before bringing in investors? Or don’t you want to put your own money where your mouth is?

They are renovating their field and signing players including Needhams own “MS” (ex-PC, Bolts)

The team will play this spring (they have a coach, gm, and are currently signing players) .... whether that team is successful or not remains to be seen, but like other minor league soccer teams anywhere, it is highly doubtful.

True, but if they can thrive at the D2 level, could make me into a pro-rel guy...
