It's all verbal stuff and hearsay which everyone tries to keep on the down-low ... there is no way to track it unfortunately. The NCAA should put an end to verbals altogether in every sport. It is a really stupid concept.

Tough to track but if your aggressive and willing to ask around you'll find out.

One way that was very effective for us is to ask players who are currently playing what their experience was with verbal commits. Ask in private so they can speak no holds barred. You'll find out quickly who the "bad" coaches are. If you hear a coach's name twice from two different players, he's probably a coach to avoid.

With the Ivys you will get a preread from admissions before the verbal is offered. So unless the player screws up badly later on, most coaches hold to their verbals. The coaches that don't develop reputations and soon players start avoiding them.
I think the poster just meant their kid got a verbal off for a 50% scholarship at one and 75% at the other.

You are right "most" keep their commitments, so do most players. But until something is signed it's only verbal and very breakable.

Take a look at the current roster and see if your kid (or even you) might have any connections say via their club teams etc. There's a good deal of interconnectivity and a few phone calls to friends of friends can often get you an answer. Don't just ask about the offer piece but what are they really like to play for?

But, bottom line, if you get a used-car salesman vibe from the coach go with your gut. It's probably right.

to be clear, it doesn't need to be from the current roster of that team, it could be any team you're looking into. Go to a game or a recruiting event and try to corral a player and tell him about your son and for any info/advice on who the good coaches were during his recruitment phase...and who were the ones to avoid. Most players will be glad to offer their story on their experience.
