OK, then what do you do with the ECNL Mafia?

So instead they tried a pseudo-residency program, where they teach it how they want it taught but left it spread out.

The mere mention of "20 major metro markets" is shot down because there's dozens and dozens of posts on here saying their isn't enough breadth to find the unicorns hidden away.
why would i send my daughter away - separating her form school, family, friends etc to PERHAPS make a youth national team that pays her nothing? The top of the sport cannot support that risk reward.

The fascination with NATIONAL creates these issues. National does not equal better. Never has. A regional plan with some national event would probably work better.

Quality of anything is variable. The system is not built to encourage development of the best. It is doing exactly what it is designed to do.

You mean like clubs competing in a pseudo-league that is regionally based, and a few National events sprinkled in at the start, middle, and end of the season? And, pulling in a few deserving players from those same leagues for a camp to see who sticks?

I think you're own to something.

Agree. If what you want is to find and develop soccer talent, there has to be a financial reward to do so. There is no incentive currently to do it.

              How so?

Concentration on development vs. results? Check

Limit the amount of playing outside to discourage overuse and bad habits? Check

A place to be seen, no matter how poorly your team is? Check

The ability to be pulled into centralized training for those most deserving to pull from? Check

Seems like the answers are right in front of us.

Free market. ECNL offers something something players want. USSF has to do better.

We can't on one hand make complaints and there is a solution right in front of them; then on the other hand say "well it's a free market and people can do what they want".

It's not up to USSF to do better. The solution provided answers virtually every need (except cost, because all the clubs' costs are way to high for some).

Don't let pride get in the way - step aside if you aren't contributing to the solution.

You make it sound like HOW its implemented is irrelevant.

Yes. Too much product right now for the target customers. Target different customers or make a more competitive product.

"I'd really love to visit my sister in California, but it takes like days to get there!"

                          "Why don't you fly?"

"I hate flying, I'd much rather drive. Driving is perfectly fine, and it caters to millions of people every day."

"But you just said it takes too long to get there."

LOL. unfortunately, cost was one of the biggest complaints and problems and yet, is the one area the USSF did nothing to address. If they had attended better to the number one issue, things would be turning our differently.

The problem is the politics. Ecnl picked their favs. Ussf as well. Not necessarily the best suited players. The favs.

Costs are costs and not much different from NPL to ECNL to DA. So, it's a wash
