You meant UCLA. The UCF coach went to UCLA.

Universities have to be more creative in obtaining more funds and how they use them.

The big donations won't ever go away - the schools aren't going to turn down free money even if a few strings are attached. It will be easy to hide alumni donations because it will just look like a generous alumni giving back to his alma mater. When questions arise is when a non alum gives big $. That was the case with Kushner getting Jared into Harvard.

Another dirty secret about admissions is faculty and some staff kids are usually welcomed with open arms, even when they may not be qualified. They also pay nothing or very little to attend. It's a nice enticement to keep good employees.

You can bet coaches are going to be more careful on who they present as an athlete, like that they applicant actually IS and athlete or has similar credentials to others on the team. hopefully admissions staff independently verify the information as well.

I would not doubt that higher up college officials go knocking on a coach’s door and ‘tell’ to take the player and big money for the University is attached. What’s the coach to say?

Oh that has always happened and won't stop - maybe at some schools but not many. These aren't scholarship athletes so it doesn't take away from those receiving scholarships. Coaches have discretion on their roster sizes so adding a water boy/girl isn't a big deal; it doesn't really cost them anything either. Seems like some of these kids either "de-commit" before the season even starts, or stick out for awhile then quit after one season.

Maybe some coaches have the cajones to stand up to the school but it's not likely - they also need favors from the school to admit weaker academic athletes fro their teams. Quid pro quo.

Faculty and staff kids wouldn’t be too many and there are perks from employers.

Faculty and staff add up fast at a decently sized school. Just a few weeks ago I had a conversation with a security guard whose kid was at the school we were visiting. Dad was clearly grateful his son was going to have a better future.

You can always specify where you want your $ spent. My alma mater certainly doesn't need more nice buildings.

With this bribery scandal the media was encouraging alumni donors to not give unless they could be sure their donations were earmarked to help economically disadvanted students.

The high school and friends of these kids given roster spots must be shocked when they see them getting on the soccer or crew team knowing they had never played the sport competitively.

Many times the kids never showed up - they de committed well after the acceptance but before school started. That happens with some athletes for valid reasons and clearly never raised any red flags. For those who showed up (for awhile) do you think many of their HS friends were tracking what they were doing? No. Clearly the kids would have known what they were doing was a lie so it's doubtful they'd advertise it to the world.

Olivia Jade (pretentious much? I guess it's the perfect name for a "social media influencer") is trashing her mom/Aunt Becky, saying her mom "ruined her career." Hilarious! Did she really think she had the grades for USC? What about posing on the rowing machine?

If only the family was broke so she'd have to get a real life job like the rest of the 99%. Instead she'll still be comfortable and horrible and vapid the rest of her life.

Any attention, positive or negative, makes her worth more money.
