CaptainU. Our club had a free trial package for a tournament around Thanksgiving and we decided to keep using it.

It is still very early in the recruiting stage and I don't expect things to really pick up until next year, but so far so good.

My question is this: a coach from a decent D1 program has expressed some interest (via the platform) and asked for additional info including SAT/Transcripts. Her profile has her GPA, but as she hasn't taken the SAT/ACT's yet, we haven't posted anything for that. Do we wait until her first SAT test? Do we post her PSAT's? Just her transcripts (all Honors classes and a 4.0 GPA). I'm guessing the coach is looking to get an early read on the test scores, just not sure how to proceed given she is only a freshmen.
Every coach we have talked to, already 2 kids into college, one more to go, said they do not waste time with emails from these sites. Their common sentiment was that these sheep mills send them emails for any interested kid and most are not vetted for quality .... they also said if your kid is too lazy to reach out to them directly, then they do not want to get to know them. They actually seemed annoyed by the volume and quality of communications sent to them from these sites and said that they mostly discard them immediately.

All that activity can be tracked by the player without actually talking to the coach... a work around of the NCAA rules maybe.

Anyway, not sure how much real interest there is at this point as we’ll need to reach out. D’s PSAT’s were OK for a frosh taking it for the first time, but not where they need to be for most of the schools she is looking at. I expect her scores to increase at least a few hunder points from here with test prep and another academic year under her belt. If she had aced her PSAT’s, I guess this would be easy. Good, not great makes things more squishy.
They are tremendously interested ....in you paying for their camp .... it is the bulk of the money that they and their assistant coaches make for a year. These recruiting platforms find them plenty of victims (I mean recruits).

I was at a college forum recently and a D1 coach was asked directly about these recruiting platforms and their usefulness. He chuckled, but didn't exactly answer the question. His reply if you saw it live told you his opinion on the usefulness of them.

You'll get many more, mostly from schools you have never heard of. They want your money for their camp, nothing else. Don't go to ID events unless the interest appears genuine - either they have seen your kid play or have had a conversation with her club coach. This applies 20 times more for anything via Captain U.

The general rule is unsolicited interest from those sites is rarely genuine. If your kid is a super stud YNT player or has other public accolades that's one thing. Top clubs that consistently turn out good players in ECNL or DA will be of interest to coaches also. But for typical players most times coaches use those platforms to fill camp slots. They already have a list of players they are looking at that have either expressed interest in the program or have seen them play.

Based on what is happening, coaches may be required to personally watch the kids they bring in. So, tape may not be worth it. The recruiting models may change as a result of the scandal.

The fake athlete scheme will quickly disappear now that it's been exposed. You can't dictate that coaches see kids before an ID event. Many kids coming won't have been seen yet. Definitely there will be greater scrutiny on the substance of an athlete's application rather than just taking a coach's word for it. A quick google search, a phone call or two by admissions officers. Many schools will review the process for athletes and might tighten the gaps allowed for athletes vs regular admits.

Also, if an "athlete" drops out after admissions then the veracity of WHY they dropped out should be investigated. If an applicant only got in because of athletics and really isn't academically qualified, but then they don't play - do they deserve to stay?

Hope there is more scrutiny over admissions for student athletes. Non-Ivy/highly academic schools should only recruit athletes that fit their academic profiles. Of course this will noynhapp because if basketball and football.

Signed up for free trial and recieved email after email stating coaches found you and are asking questions. Didn’t pay to see the info. Site is a joke and a money maker. You don’t need to pay for any recruiting information or profiles.

Apparently, neither was yours. Why the gratuitous nastiness? Do you feel better about yourself now?

(I have a son, who is being recruited, so I don't mind what other families do/ask)

It's a process, troll. Asked a question about that process. The TS community came back with some great responses, except yours of course.

BTW, if you're going to troll a thread successfully, next time you might at least proof read your post. You come off as an illiterate. Added to your angry/jealous troll vibe, it really doesn't work so well.
