It's a great point. There is a difference between striker an forward that has to be made (although I would argue that Ronaldo is a striker). The best players in my book are/were Messi and Maradona and although they are/were prolific scorers they are both forwards. If the original poster said the best players in history of game are forwards/strikers then I would not argue. Then you would have Pele, Messi, Maradona, Cruyff. And with all due respect to the great midfielders and defenders I think you'd be hard pressed to find a list that didn't have these guys listed as best.

Sure often times the goal scorer is just the player in the right place at the right time. But a player doesn’t get a ton of goals without having a big part in it. Every division in NH has some weak and some strong teams. No one is racking up a ton of goals against all weak teams. Every great forward knows they count on their team to get them the ball.
Forward / strikers are typically great ball handlers who can create the space needed to get a quality shot in traffic. At the high school level, many of the best players play midfield, example - NH two 2019 All-Americans are Charlie Adams (Hanover) and Logan Falzorano (Lebanon), both played midfield and scored ~ 24 and 19 goals respectively. The best NH striker was Bedford's Vitor Rodrigues who scored ~ 24 goals, all three also had nearly as many assists as goals. Charlie Adams is also a great striker (great opportunity creator) but his coach decided he would be more valuable playing midfield. In my view, as you get to higher levels in soccer, the most creative ball handlers will typically play forward / striker. All about creating opportunities for your team.

Depends on the striker and formations. Some great goal-scorers are nothing without service. They roam around the area and pounce on any opportunity. But, if they don't have a creator they are nothing.
