MK took his eye off the girls program and focused only on BDA. That combined with not being in ECNL nearly killed their program off entirely. We'll see if he can resurrect it from the dead. No way he gets a GDA badge anytime soon - maybe down the road if USSF expands it more (as it is it's far too big) or BS takes over another failing club/club dropping out like they did with SC.
SC was attractive because it had boys DA badge.....there is no similar "failing" club on the girls side to get them higher in the pyramid. No way forward. Dead end.

Well since GDA hasn't started yet it's tough for anyone to be failing. But given that some GDA clubs have already dropped out you never know. Problem is BS is too far away relative to others that might drop out and too close to OW and the two ECNL clubs. GDA expansion plans would be the only way they get it and I agree above that GDA is already too big for what it's trying to accomplish. Last thing we need is more clubs in this area. There are other parts of the country that need beefing up before NE does.

USSF could give another badge to CT, and BS could get it. They gave two to CT on the boys side, so why not?

USSF could care less about where ECNL clubs are located. Over 30 clubs left ECNL for GDA, so GDA is well on its way to being the top dog. And you know more clubs will be added down the road. Just look at the growth of the boys academy as an example. The girls will not be outdone!

lol thanks for the chuckle. The boys side was created in a completely different environment. They were the only game in town. They have a pro path, free tuition at 1/3 of the clubs. On the girls side plenty of players will be staying in ECNL, including many top players. If GDA becomes #1 it will take time and will vary by area. Around here ECNL will remain solid - partly because OW is weak. Players/families are happy with kids making good academic school squads in New England, a pro path doesn't even register with them, ECNL competition is still good, OW and its coaching isn't a draw. Also, some clubs have dropped out of GDA to stay in ECNL - they see a different picture of where this is going.

Also, given the results on the boys side I wouldn't be holding that up as an example of greatness. Making GDA bigger isn't the answer. We'll just end up with a watered down mess.

ECNL is the new NPL. Over time all top players will migrate to GDA....it's the new best thing.

Or, its the new best thing for non-ecnl clubs ..... for everyone else its just another thing ..... costly, lots of travel, 2nd fiddle to top league ....... sorry, let's let them build a roster to see if anything sticks.

OW has a roster. the issue is who is on it - same players, same coaches, new league. Let's see how they PERFORM moving forward.

They will not even have all of their current players when September arrives.

That's fine - then the question becomes who comes in to fill open slots? Answer: it won't be top ECNL players

Yes. It will be a rocky start for OW and the rest of GDA. Once the league gets its footing, it will rise to the top no doubt. You have some MLS clubs, most NWSL clubs and the USSF all behind it in an effort to make it work. And it will likely be the case that over time, most all players in the national team pool will be selected from GDA.....so from a quality stand point GDA will rule and college coaches (looking for the top talent) will naturally follow. ECNL will be relegated to Tier II status in the pecking order.

Also, GDA pro-sponsored academies will be free-to-play - so our top players will be selected on skills, not on whether mommy and daddy can write the big check.

These ECNL parents are in denial. They have been more than willing to invest crazy money to get little Mia some exposure in ECNL for college entry and to brag on the cocktail party circuit. Now that their position is being threatened by the new GDA and they are freaking out.

                          Times are changing.....don't fight it.

Any initiative that gets us any closer to a "free-to-play" system should be supported.

totally agreed - but it will be virtually non existent on the girls' side. It's barely existent on the boys side, where there's 22 and growing MLS club and way more money involved. There was a survey done of MLS DA clubs on how much they spend. Ten responded with a high of $4M to a low of $1M (NE Revs no shocker they were the lowest). What women's teams can afford that kind of outlay? Pro women's teams are barely afloat financially and few and far between. Simple geography will mean it won't work for many talented players. Support for talented players will have to come from the clubs themselves - the ability to do so will vary greatly club to club

No one is freaking out; well few are freaking out. ECNL will become #2 but it will suit the needs of many players just fine. There's lots of opportunities out there outside of top D1. For the time being many ECNL players are already recruited or are staring it. College is the goal; no one is going pro, virtually no one is on track for the NT. College coaches aren't convinced of GDA supremacy happening quickly either. Most posters on this board will barely be impacted by it. I know I'm glad my youngest (junior) is done and neither of my girls had to deal with this mess. Based on the boys/men's side in ten years I don't see GDA helping much
