I'm hearing rumblings of lots of change coming to DA both nationally AND locally.
Don't know how to predict what is going to occur nationally, other than none of the USSF presidential candidates have much nice to say about how DA is run.

Westside taking over Thorns?
It would be fitting for a club known for not giving a sh!t about girls soccer taking over the thorns academy. It’s also not surprising the Timbers are looking to dump the Girls DA after such a short run.
Well, all kinds of rumors floating around the rec center - also heard Westside was going broke and they were merging with THUSC.
But chances are 1 of those 4 rumors is true.
What if they merge with THUSC and take over the GDA - that almost makes sense!
A merger with THUSC would make a lot of sense, though it would likely piss off a few THUSC parents.
With Tom A. gone, the two clubs are these days on good terms. One is strong at boys, the other is strong at girls. They pretty much share the territory.
How it would affect CU is an interesting question.
Now this comment, mind you, does not constitute any evidence or rumor that such WILL happen. I haven't heard anything.
As far as Westside going broke--I don't think they have any signficant debt. Unlike some other clubs that own (and presemably have loans on) their facilities, WT pretty much rents everything from BSD and THPRD. OTOH, they do have a lot of players on scholarship, their fees are low compared to other clubs. And they reportedly helped bail out NSC last year when Nic apparently left the club holding the bag.
US Soccer was in town in December and liked the Vantucky venue......even with the gunshots apparently.
So two GDAs and two BDAs? That makes sense but only if they can attract the best players and WAT can subsidize like Timbers and Thorns are. Otherwise they will just be glorified B teams full of kids on the north side of the river.

Fee will be $500 for the year.
Vantucky is close to inking a 10 year deal with Kaiser Permanente/24 Hr Fitness that will fund both boys and girls DA along with building a small clinic at harmony within the 85,000 Clubhouse with pub, classrooms, PT Clinic, workout facility for parents and for players and six Futsal courts. Parking lot and clubhouse is scheduled to break ground August 2018 but could start in June if permitting would hurry up.

Awesome but not enough talent from that one area north of the river to draw any of the top talent from Oregon except for maybe NEU? On the girls side it would be a blow to FC Portlands ECNL Program. Seems unlikely WAT makes enough $$ to fully subsidize 8-10 DA teams (girls and boys) playing in a regional US Soccer league.
Having two subsidized DAs, one located up at Harmony (close to Clark County and East Portland) and one located in the existing PTFC training center in Beaverton (regardless of which club runs it) makes sense.
Were only one subsidized DA in the Couv, it would run into one of the big problems the existing TA runs into--a commute that is hell for a lot of the talent pool. And the PTFC training center in Beaverton is a lot more centrally located than Harmony is.
One could make a case for a second subidized DA side somewhere on the west side (PCC Sylvania or Lake O) given the larger talent pool in Washington County than in Clark County; a southwest DA would attract players from Clackamas County as well. (In which case putting the Washington County DA in Hillsboro or at THPRD makes more sense). A subsidized DA in Salem, covering the Willamette Valley, would also be useful--it would be a bit of a stretch for Eugene, but there are quite a few players on TA squads who are from places south of Canby.

The Timbers have invested an extraordinary amount into Beaverton. You think they are going to just bail for the dog **** that is Vantucky? Keep dreaming.
