    Ecnl/gda

Is it possible to play in college without playing for either league? The cost and travel is outrageous. We are 2 hours to the closest ECNL or GDA teams. We are a family with 4 kids, and it is just not feasible for our family. Our daughter has tremendous talent and passion for soccer. She is a straight A student. As she is approaching high school next year, we are considering options but have been told there is no way to play in college other than to play ECNL or GDA. Are there any options for her?

Do not buy the BS that your kid needs to play in one of those leagues to play in college. There are many levels of college soccer and there are players from all of our local leagues playing in college. Where the only advantage to playing GDA and ECNL is if your kid is looking to play top 25 D1. Anything below that, you can get their through NPL and NEP and NSL depending on whether she plays mid D1, D2 or D3. Heck, I know bench player from an NSL team playing for a local D3 school now. It’s not a great soccer program, but she is playing in college. My family chose to top out at NPL and my child is being recruited by both D1 and D2 schools currently.

Find her the best coaching in the area that works for you. Its certainly a possibility but she'll have to work harder to get noticed. If her team doesn't do some good showcases she will have to do ID events at schools- just make sure they are a good academic and soccer fit. You can gauge the soccer looking at team rosters and where players came from and watching games in line. Good players with great grades have options.

        Please don’t feed the troll.

You’ve “been told” the only way to play college is ECNL/DA? You are considering options fall of her 8th grade year? Insert eye roll here.

Don’t let those ECNLers who have spent thousands on soccer tell you different. They are just mad because they had to spend a fortune when some don’t. It definitely is possible. If your daughter is good, she will get noticed.

Very true. On another note, GDA is off to a competitive start, 10-1 for the u18/19 without a bunch of starters. Thank goodness my daughter is a senior. I don’t know about ECNL but GDA is a joke.

use college to pursue an education and a career path and skip the college soccer if you can.

Yes of course. I advocate for both (currently in DA) but good players will always be found. It's harder to be seen, but nowhere near impossible. You may just have to take extra steps (i.e. camps, ODP, etc.) but rest assured...you definitely can. Florida State, currently the defending women's national champions, has an NPL/HS player on the roster. So, yes, it absolutely can be done.

Can you play D1 outside of ECNL/DA? Yes
Will you get seen more in ECNL/DA? Yes

And it isn't just about being seen. Playing in the higher leagues is more challenging and will (generally) get you better prepared for college ball. Beating up on poor quality #3 league NPL teams won't.

Exactly. Another BS troll post. Someone that has a vested interest in a non da/ non ECNL club is soliciting comments to justify not playing da/ECNL level soccer. Whatever way you spin it, it all boils down to what a persons’ goals are. If you have high aspirations, go for the highest levels available. If you don’t necessarily care about the level you play at in the future, don’t worry about it. It’s easy to look at rosters and survey which clubs players came from.

One player from NPL as opposed to how many other da/ECNL players. You can win the lottery too, but what are your odds?

Of course. Never implied otherwise. I said it's not impossible, and it's not. I'm sure there are others, too, but have neither the tools nor the desire to look into it.

Again, it's harder, but not impossible. What is that hard to understand?

Don’t worry about top 25 D1. Very few MA girls make it that far regardless of league. A lot of that due to hardly any New England colleges in the top 25 RPI and those regional schools are where 80% get recruited. Most end up at schools ranked 25 to 200.

Yes. Exactly. General questions and answers about D1 soccer are not useful to actual students. Make a list of the colleges that interest your player and are good fits. Then examine the players on the rosters of their women's soccer programs to see what backgrounds the players generally seem to have.
