Looks like soccer is now both Moderate and High Risk?

Moderate Risk sports and recreation activities are characterized by:
                  • Sports or activities that involve intermittent contact but with protective equipment or mitigating measures in place that may reduce the likelihood of respiratory particle transmission between participants (e.g., wearing masks, modifying play)
Examples: Baseball, softball, crew, sailing, track and field, running clubs, team swimming, volleyball, dance class, fencing, field hockey, no-contact lacrosse, soccer

Higher Risk sports and recreation activities are characterized by:
                  • Sports that involve close, sustained contact between participants, lack of significant protective
barriers, and high probability that respiratory particles will be transmitted between participants.
Examples: Football, wrestling, soccer, rugby, basketball, lacrosse, ice-hockey, competitive cheer, martial arts, ultimate frisbee.

                  Complete idiots who drafted this.

Maybe they're saying that if players wear masks or if contact is (somehow) minimized, then they'll classify it as moderate. But if players don't wear masks and gameplay is actually, y'know, soccer as it's intended to be played, then it's still higher risk. Just like wrestling, apparently?

It's typical political *****-covering. They can say, "I said soccer was okay, as long as you make some small adjustments, so why are you still complaining?"

Someone is smart enough to realize that it might be too cold by Christmas to play soccer outside. Refreshing intellect.

Hopefully MA clarifies the inconsistent classification of soccer between moderate and high risks.

Perhaps there may be some modifications necessary for youth soccer in the near term, such as kick ins (vs throw ins), no corner kicks, etc., to eliminate touching the ball with your hands, sustained contact, etc. I would be fine with that if it means that kids can play soccer this Fall.

Running around with a mask on is more dangerous than the virus to kids. Stop the nonsense. If parents, coaches and match officials are so scared of contracting the virus, don't participate. Stay home, shelter in place for a couple of years until we have a vaccine or this pandemic blows over.

In the meantime, kids have a greater risk of dying driving to the game than dying from the virus.
