$U$A - susa Not refunding money

    Dear SUSA Families,

We hope this email finds you well. This week US Club Soccer published this email stating that the return-to-play decision making has been delegated to local government. Since most of NY State has not yet started Phase 1 of reopening, it seems highly unlikely that we will be able to participate in league play in the coming weeks. Based on the current information, SUSA is granting the following credits to our members to be applied to the 2020/21 season:

Annual tuition of $3,000 plus = $375 credit

Annual tuition of $2,000 plus = $275 credit

Annual tuition of $1,600 plus = $175 credit

*Tuition amount above is based on the net amount paid to SUSA.

Any tournaments that were included and missed in the 2019/20 season will be added next year. Any remaining balance in the team account will be rolled into next season’s budget or refunded by the team admin.

Here are two options available to you regarding your 2020/21 tuition credit:

    1. Support our cause: We hope that you continue to support the Long Island youth soccer community by donating your credit to NYSEF https://nationalyouthsef.org which supports underprivileged local players. This would provide tuition assistance to children in underserved communities. Your credit will automatically be converted into a tax-deductible donation and your family will be included on the published SUSA Donors List. To donate your credit and receive documentation, please click here https://sports.formstack.com/forms/youthdonation

    2. If you wish to apply your credit to next season it will be applied to your final installment in March 2021.

There are many variables that go into running the club under these unforeseen circumstances. Including, but not limited to, staff retention, club management, club overhead, member communication, individual program home workouts, expenses from leagues, cups and tournaments. Refunds are not available for players who choose not to return. Credits will be applied to player accounts in good standing only. If you still owe tuition for the 2019/20 season you are responsible for the balance. Please contact us as soon as possible to take care of any outstanding balances so that you do not miss out on receiving your credit.

We thank you for your support during this difficult time. We miss our players tremendously and cannot wait to return to play.

    Please continue to stay safe.

    Keep Loving Soccer...

As far as I can tell only one club on Long Island, profit or non-profit, has given full refunds for the spring season to all players. Even the non-profits have mostly gone with the partial credit route.

Less than 10% refund. Just need one LI Lawyer to start a class action lawsuit against them!!!

Keeping the tournament money on top of only giving a small credit (in the spring of 2021) is just plain criminal.

It says no refunds for players that choose not to return but what about the players forced not to return as the economy has bottomed out and unemployment is skyrocketing. Do those families get their money back so they can go buy groceries?

It’s like the USWNT everyone is too scared to speak up for fear of being replaced or marginalized. I get it and don’t know what to do. We play there and my child is barely seeing game time. If we gripe now they just won’t play them or ask them to return. Yes they are player # 22 . Why would Susa keep a below average player who has a parent that complains. This is a tough spot to be.

If you know and openly admit that your kid is below average (your words), why are you allowing your kid to stay on that team???? Find a team that is more suitable to their level of talent! Can't blame a club (Susa or otherwise) for not playing a kid that is not up to par.

If they put the kid on the roster and take the money, they imply the player is suitable for the team and they absolutely need to play the kid. The club is the one that is supposed to have all the expertise about evaluating talent, not the ignorant soccer parent.

Do not roster these kids not at the right level and do not take their money.

you have a point, but the other point is this: the kid make the team (thats great) now the kid has to perform, he/she has to outwork, out hustle, outperform his/her team mates in practice and games. Otherwise the coach can and will replace/bench your lazy _ss!

This is competitive soccer its not a cushion job with tenure working as a teacher or a postal worker. (no offence to teachers or postal workers). In the corporate world if you don't produce, you get replaced, its that simple.

BS. Every player on the team can asses who is and is not up to the task within one practice. If the coach is not up to this task, put the players in charge. By ecnl age, they know who they can rely on out on the field when the chips are down.

Boys ECNL is not a top league. It definitely is for girls but not for the boys.

Have to disagree with you on this one. You have a parent who admits their kid is below average and is afraid to say anything about lack of PT. How are you blaming the club for this? If the parents are willing to pay and are not addressing the issue and the kid is not meeting their potential, that's kind of on them, no?

I'm not defending Susa or any other club, but I know plenty of parents that are fine with limited PT as long as they can say their kid is on the top team. How is the club supposed to discern that a kid would prefer to be complacent on a lower level team instead of aspiring to play more on a higher level team, especially if parents/kid aren't saying anything?
