Not amazing at all. Any intelligent and well meaning person would have to be insane to subject themselves to the torture of running for major office and then holding that office. Imagine the unfair, sleazy attacks that would be launched against even the most virtuous candidate. Imagine the indignity of being called names and being told you are wrong or stupid by voters who fail to comprehend even the most basic facts of a given subject matter. Imagine figuring out the solutions to problems and then not being able to implement them because of politics and voter stupidity. That is why only egomaniacs run for office. Really intelligent people with good morals who would be capable of the job have had their second or third company go public, made billions, and are enjoying their lives.
