Says the guy whose kid isn't good enough for a free ride. Sorry but this is how it works at some clubs. Some gives assistance based solely on financial need and even require documentation to prove the need. Others comp kids they really want because they need the players to stay competitive. Many clubs also add players throughout the year (as well as maybe lose some). If these players are getting a reduced rate it's mostly likely because the fee is prorated by time on the team. I don't think that is at all unusual or uncalled for.

Other folks a the club objecting is also how it works. Everyone is working hard and struggling to provide for their own kids. As great as a player may be, other people at the club object to paying fees to cover other players if that is what is happening. Soccer lessons are not like food, or shelter or healthcare. No kid is deprived if they cant be on a deluxe soccer team.

Plenty of clubs do it. If you don't like it, go elsewhere. In reality 99% of families have no idea how their club operates financially. It's a business and they've determined that's how they want to operate. There's always someone else willing to take your kid's spot if you feel the need to make some kind of "statement." But you won't. No one leaves a good situation over this.

No one likes it and we don't go elsewhere. It is a business. When you are in business you have to deal with customer complaints. Oh well.

Losers let someone else provide for their kid.

So by your rational thinking.....if your brat kid got a full ride scholarship to say Michigan,
you would not take the deal because you would let others pay for your kid and you would consider yourself to be a loser?...interesting.

Wrong analogy. Education is not a luxury product. If a kid needs food or medicine or shelter or education, I will help as best I can.

I am fine to even try to help kids participate in youth sports but not the ridiculous nonsense of luxury girls high end soccer. pay for that yourself. my kid has lots of luxuries she does to get to participate in and I dont go getting money form other families so I can provide her with luxuries.

                    Losers and their scholarships

Maybe you should realize that the clubs offer the free rides because that is what the clubs want. That is what the club believes is best for them. It isn't your business who pays what, you agreed to pay what you pay and your interest in other's money makes you seem like a bitter loser. On some clubs they use the scholarships to lure superstars, on others it is a tax break and in some cases a loyal member of the club has had a financial setback and rather than kick them off the team they let them continue with a scholarship. Seems odd that you have spent this much time and money on teams and clubs without ever learning how either of them operate.

The problem with this is using the children and the "scholarships" as a way to undercut your competition. SUSA had one of their coaches contact several players from KK and offered them a free year. It was SUSA's intent to break up the 2007 team there. Don't see how parents are okay with less competition so SUSA can continue to get larger using crappy tactics like this.

No such thing as a free lunch folks.

Scholarships are fine if they come from sponsors or fund raising IMO. If you are taking money from some families so you can give it to kids form other families, you are going to piss people off.

You are not taking from one family and giving it to another. You are merely NOT taking from one family because you think keeping their kid will make your club better, possibly more profitable. Again, you made the deal you made, pay what you agreed to pay and stop worrying about other people's money. It makes you petty.

Most families know this but it seems you were late to the party. Plus it isn't nearly as common as you seem to think, at most 1-2 kids per team and not even that often because of the demographics of club soccer. The clubs are making a business decision. As a customer you can accept it or go elsewhere. But chances are where you go next is doing the exact same thing. The only place it's nearly egalitarian is free to play MLS clubs, where most times it's all about the talent not the ability to pay (minus the politics now and then).
