2019 Rankings
1. Wellesley- State finalist last year and return the league MVP and leading goal scorer, but do lose a lot of their core in the midfield and most importantly just lost their coach two weeks ago. Expect them to win a competitive Carey Division Title.
2. Needham- lost in PKs to Wellesley in the South Quarterfinals after an impressive year, they lose much of their backline and midfield but as always they find a way to bring in new and younger players to fill the spot. Expect to win the Herget Division title.
3. Weymouth- up and down year for Weymouth as they struggled to score goals after losing their D1 bound striker for the season. They rerun 15 players and 9 starters from last season which ended in the South Sectional 1st round OT Loss to Wellesley.
4. Newton North- by far the best season they’ve put together in a while but didn’t translate to the tournament as they got matched up against league foe Brookline who won in PKs. They lost a number of talented players
5. Brookline- as always they are a very talent and solid throughout the spine of their team. They will have to rebuild this upcoming year but will likely be a low tournament seed who looks to upset teams yet again.
The rest are
6. Framingham- could be improved from a disappointing few years but we'll have to see what they bring in for talent.
7. Natick- was good last year with loaded upperclassmen and will be hurting this year playing in a tough league. Very hard to seen them making the tournament.
8. Walpole- Made a great run to the D2 Finals before running into Nauset. They lose a lot of talent and will struggle to replace the goals and midfield and backline. Always a hard nose team that will grind results. Expect a couple upsets and a lot of ties but the wins will be less than 6 this year.
9. Braintree- similar to last year but could be slightly improved with a younger core coming back. Lacking talent and goal scorers yet again.
10. Milton- new coach after decent success for the last few years. Not much talent. Will be the team who gets beat on week after week.
Okay quick update on my original post
Seems like the leaguers going to be very top heavy this year.
1. Wellesley- still defending D1 finalist. Hasn’t shown any signs of slipping
2. Needham- Still getting the job down even after loosing a big senior class
3. Weymouth- off to a very good start, but game against Needham tomorrow
4. Framingham- beat Milton, Braintree, newton north and tied Wellesley.
5. Natick- younger talented team whose playing well and scoring goals
6. Braintree- got off to a very hot start but got thumped by Framingham 4-0
7. Newton North- still there, they lost a lot let’s see if early season struggles hold them down
8. Brookline- albeit winless they’ve been in every single game, but can’t score or close out
9. Milton- showed some fight early but seem to be trending back to what we know Milton as
10. Walpole- I knew they lost a lot last year but this team is like Dedham of old. Poor defense and play all over the field.
