Way, way, way more clubs in Germany than in the US. You've got 6 levels of clubs out investing in the youth games. Heck, the 3rd level draws as much as a typical MLS club.

There isn't a sport in the US that has their pro teams heavily investing in youth clubs. Soccer may be as much as any of them, to be honest.
