Rankings are overrated and based on years of past performances.UNC played Syracuse and BC and they weren’t blowouts.

Everyone here is trying to place AD in his soccer grave. Most don’t like him nor his playing style, but last season his was the team playing Stanford in the final, and this season he finished second in the ACC.

Not overrated, but your facts are bad. UNC dont rest the players. They have set sub patterns and often do not take the lead until the second unit of 5/6 players comes on.

Against Duke, UVA, and Syracuse, the Heels used 7 subs.

Against BC there were 10.

Okay? Sometimes coaches switch up things when playing different teams. Conference play is different than conference post season play. This is where the rubber meets the road. Bonuses, $$ for players on the line for conf/power 5 stuff. all comes into play.

If you're good enough to play in the ACC are you going to want BC or Duke or UVA? If soccer is your primary focus, less so academics, do you want BC or a UNC? Tough to attract top talent when you're one of the worst teams. With a coach that isn't producing results recruits may be hesitant out of fear the coach will be fired in the next year or two. I don't think it's a money thing as they should be fully funded, just like the rest

Other than some of the big state schools, I expect that cost of attendance is not a huge factor. While UNC or NC State might be $20k less per year than BC, I suspect that Duke and maybe UVa are in a similar range. All of the ACC programs would be fully funded, so it's a matter of how the scholarships are divided up and how deep into the roster the $'s go. It a program has a bunch of 5star recruits demanding big packages, the back end of the roster is getting peanuts.
