Costs of what? Water for the water bottles? Thorns Academy will be MORE expensive than ECNL, not less. And the competition level will be significantly LESS than ECNL. When you combine that with rec-level coaching and no HS soccer, the GDA is a loser from day 1.

They really have no choice but to cover club dues(they have turd on their hands and anyone outside of a couple of alliance fanboys know it) - however, they aren't covering travel.

With no teams to play in Oregon, more out of state games, and a division spread all over the west, cost:

Thorns Travel > ECNL cost for everything.

$500 bond that is returned at the end of the year. Everything else is inclusive.

That's less than $1,000 per month. Not bad considering.

The $500 bond is for the boys academy not the girls. They will not be supported financially the same way.

Sad to see how this program has so flopped for my daughter's age group. Lucky for players, some out of state coaches might not be aware of the situation and might actually see it as a plus on a resume. We were worried and didn't want to risk it though which is why we quit. Best of luck to all those that remained (such tough choices)! Oregon is simply a MESS and those that judge other parents for their choices just seem like insecure freaks who are trying to justify their own choices. I don't judge anyone. We are all weighing out our options as best we can, trying to get our kids developed, trying to not spend an arm and a leg and trying to get them exposure if they desire to play college out of state, which comes with an added cost (duh). Most I've talked to don't care about a ton of college scholarship $$ and I know a lot who do not even care if their kid plays college. If anyone feels ripped off, feels they aren't getting developed or not getting enough exposure, then they have choices and decisions to make and guess what! In Oregon, there is no golden path and you will be lacking in at least one of those areas (maybe even more than was mentioned), so you have to plan for that, if you care to.

We're not talking about them letting you out on parole.

Dont believe me then. But it's going to be hilarious when Ecnl in Oregon fails because they convinced everyone it was a good idea then it turned out to be a near scam. Now people only have to pay 500$ to play while saying they are "good"

You will lose your base. Ignorant and foolish families who think they found the next best team.

There is no literature stating the GDA will be only a $500 bond. You are making that up. It is up to each club to determine cost and the Thorns have not stated a cost. Your $500 bond comes from the boys DA and your dreams. It is not going to work that way.

$10,000 per year isn't bad. I'm sure the Timbers would be fine paying 20x $10,000. That's only $200,000 per team per year. They're rich.

25x $10,000 actually. 25 girls rostered per team. And yet somehow ECNL is the scam...
