My daughter was recruited and plays club and the other 6 in her recruiting class also all play club. When going through the process we looked at a LOT of D1 rosters and never found someone who didn’t have club experience.

The reality is that DA is fine, but for the majority who are playing DA, they would play in college regardless of where they played, ECNL, NPL, etc. So you are giving up high school sports without a good reason. If your high school team sucks, so be it, but that isn't the case for a number of schools and the chance to play in front of peers and family and friends in your community, be recognized in the local papers and earn praise and awards for success on the field is worth much more as an individual than any "state or national championship" in club. No one but the club and the players care about success in club. Can't say that about high school sports.

If a players goal is to play at the highest level, they should be fully committed to the training and structure, and be willing to make the necessary sacrifices, ie not playing high school soccer. There are plenty of other leagues for all the rest.

Parents are going to brag. Everyone brags about what their kid is doing as the best until it's not. Then they switch to that, or spend countless hours on talking-whateveryouwant.com trying to bring the other side back to their level.

1. the level has to be low enough to fill clubs
2. Clubs have no incentive to be a part of it.
