Or they are sufficiently challenged in ECNL and don't feel the need to give up HS to play mediocre competition.

          Nobody is doubting that either.

So is some of the DA competition along with many other downsides. For many players they don't see enough positives outweighing the negatives. USSF assumed it would be a swift transition like with BDA. But BDA didn't have a strong competitor like ECNL. It also has pro club involvement and a pro track. Girls don't care about the track and there's so little money in women's soccer that there will never be substantive support for girls youth soccer

My daughter was recruited and plays club and the other 6 in her recruiting class also all play club. When going through the process we looked at a LOT of D1 rosters and never found someone who didn’t have club experience.
I'm sure looking at college rosters bios you usually see the HS accomplishments listed too. It's not like colleges don't value that HS experience, but it gets downplayed here. Being an All-state or All-American is an INDIVIDUAL achievement. Nothing like that with club because the clubs want to promote the club first and foremost. Some rosters mention club experience, but other than they played on the club at some point (while in HS or before?) or a title-winning team, you don't know much about them individually. Everyone knows that many of the top club girls play on their HS team (excluding DA). What's to say those bios don't reflect how many girls don't drop club into their varsity HS careers and it's clear they are a standout player?

Timing matters... for freshmen and sophomores who play varsity, it is usually more challenging than club as they are playing against players on average 2-3 years older. By your junior or senior year, it is less challenging because of the physical development that occurs over those years and the field is now more level or tilted in an upperclassman's favor.

The reality is that DA is fine, but for the majority who are playing DA, they would play in college regardless of where they played, ECNL, NPL, etc. So you are giving up high school sports without a good reason. If your high school team sucks, so be it, but that isn't the case for a number of schools and the chance to play in front of peers and family and friends in your community, be recognized in the local papers and earn praise and awards for success on the field is worth much more as an individual than any "state or national championship" in club. No one but the club and the players care about success in club. Can't say that about high school sports.

There are plenty of other leagues for all the rest.
That’s what it’s supposed to be, yes, however we all know that families love to have a kid playing at the “highest level”. That’s what it becomes. It’s not about development, even if the father says so. It’s not about precious finally playing with girls of a similar skill level, even if the mother says so. It’s not about reaching for your dreams, even if the players says so. It’s about bragging rights and a badge and the hope for college money and that’s it.

That's not a DA thing, that's not even a soccer thing...hell...it's not even an athletic thing.

Parents are going to brag. Everyone brags about what their kid is doing as the best until it's not. Then they switch to that, or spend countless hours on talking-whateveryouwant.com trying to bring the other side back to their level.

no. its supposed to be for any player above a certain level who want to continue to improve. This characterization is a perception that the GDA PR people created and it has really hurt them

                        The flaws are

                        1. the level has to be low enough to fill clubs
                        2. Clubs have no incentive to be a part of it.

First Ecnl then NPL and never GDA.
