2 of their 3 world cup championships happened between 1991 to 1999.
This isn't their first rodeo preparing the nations elite.

Colleges don't mind the ease of just showing up to evaluate, it makes their cake job even simpler for them.
Problem is the format and coaching is a mess (expected with a club centric league) and US Soccer (youth) National teams (once dominant) have become doormats with so many ECNL products failing miserably to compete on the world stage as youths, with only a truncated 'showcase' model to facilitate development for the next stage. Sadly, it's a disaster and US Soccer is trying to fix it. More than likely too late. Should of been blown up about 4 or 5 years ago. US Soccer is late to the dance. All the best correcting this S Show.

ECNL was working just fine. It was getting larger every year. I am not sure what you have been smoking if you did not think ECNL was not working. It was not perfect, but nothing is. ECNL was certainly better than what we have now as a whole. I get that the Thorns is only charging $2K this year so it is better for a segment of players. Portland Thorns will become Westside Thorns next year. We will then be back to full pay to play for Oregon DA team. The full cost will be more than ECNL because you will now have to travel during the fall season.

I remember paying for RTC, Regional Camps, and Arizona trip. Not sure how ODP was much different.

Kiddo leagues for club teams can be run by anyone willing. See US Club efforts on this front.
Are you really this dense in person?

As for Thorns, they've seen much better competition this year than ECNL and if the trend continues, GDA will clearly be the top league in the country next year. And does it really matter if they are Eastside, Westside, Portland? So long as the coaching, competition and talent come together, it will be a great program. The 00/99 and 01/02's are deep. 03's and 04/05's will attract stronger talent next year but they are getting clobbered this year.

Try reading the post that I was responding to. The question wasn't about specific ECNL clubs, but ECNL as a whole vs. GDA.
BTW, having a lot of player does not mean a team is deep.
And yes it does matter if Eastside or Westside will have the team. When that happens, the program will no longer be subsidized and the cost will be greater than ECNL. Why do you think the Thorns want to get rid of GDA team. How many players will end up going to the new Thorns if the cost is not > $6K. I am being conservative on $6K because I think it will be more like $8K which is the price tag for the Seattle Reign.
