How many coaches and directors do you know that has an A license?

How many are a complete joke?

I know one or two good ones and worked with around 10 egomaniacs.

In order to obtain a USSF A "License" one must spend approximately 30 days in various training courses where they spent the majority of their time to play soccer as "dummy" players so that instructors can provide "model" training sessions, as well as fellow candidates can "practice coaching" and demonstrate their coaching ability attempting to coach "dummy" players. This all accounts for indoctrination into one coaching methodology, while ignoring all the other possible methods. Even researchers of coaching practices agree that “there is evidence supporting that some coaching courses can be considered training or indoctrination instead of education, delivering and requiring protocols and a certain way of coaching instead of giving coaches choices and helping them to become educators, independent thinkers and researchers (Cushion, C., 2013, Science and Soccer: Developing Elite Performers. in M. A. Williams (Ed.). New York, NY: Routledge. pp. 207-208).” USSF licensing courses establish “protocols” of how this game should be played and how the players should be coached, but soccer is not based on protocols. Soccer is a game.

According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the definition of license is: "a permission granted by competent authority to engage in a business or occupation or in an activity otherwise unlawful." In no way can USSF criminalize soccer coaching by anyone not holding a USSF "license" the way governments criminalize individuals practicing any occupation without a professional license.

Scotty Armstrong is the prime example of these coaches you are describing.

The only ones that criticize A licenses are those that don't have them. Large clubs should have their older teams coached by someone with the best credentials possible. Unless they are being cheap and don't have the money. Usually, because the ED is overrated and overpaid. Is every A licensed coach great? No. Are there coaches without a license that are great? Yes. But the exceptions don't make the rule. Having an A license demonstrates commitment to the game and a superior level of coaching knowledge. Would it really hurt to have more youth coaches with advanced licenses? I don't think so. Do the work.

The OP is a FESA tool trying to make excuses as to why his club doesn’t have any A licensed coaches. He’s trying to make the same justification on the Armada and FESA threads. Desperate!

Amen to that. Bubb does not hire very well and won't pay for real, quality coaches.

Armada has some of the worst A licenses coaches. Pat is one of them. No need to justify. Ironically, the A license coaches have DA teams! Great Job USSF!
