Not so fast there cowboy: a spokesperson for the team has said that is false

“This is a sad attempt by U.S.S.F. to quell the overwhelming tide of support the U.S.W.N.T. has received from everyone from fans to sponsors to the United States Congress,” Molly Levinson, a spokeswoman for the players in the gender lawsuit, said in a statement. “The U.S.S.F. has repeatedly admitted that it does not pay the women equally and that it does not believe the women even deserve to be paid equally.”

The players’ spokeswoman contended that the federation included the players’ N.W.S.L. salaries to inflate their national team pay. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/29/s...equal-pay.html

Well that spokesperson is an idiot. US Soccer pays the women a base salary of 162k-175k a year just to be on the USWNT. IT pays the men zero. The women also get a benefits package which the men don't get.

From the time period of 2010 to 2018 the women payouts were more than men. Can't argue with facts.

If the women want truly equal pay, then get rid of their guarentted payments for being on the USWNT completely. Let them only get paid by their NWSL teams with no help from US SOCCER. These women will go from making 175K a year to the average NWSL salary that is probably a buck ninety five a week.

This is an easy argument for US Soccer. USWNT please sit down and shut up.

The USWNT team should get the same pay as the men. Specifically the U15 men that stomped them 5-2.

I guess that is the mens team that should have competed for a spot int he last world cup - not the losers who actually were on the field when they got their asses kicked by powerhouses like Trinidad-Tobago. Bottom line the men are losers who deserve no pay - they have consistently failed to perform at anything other than the lowest level. The fact that this is even a debate (i.e. the proposition that a men's team which is, and always will be, a bunch of inept losers deserve to be paid more than the women) flies in the face of American values. We pay winners in this country, losers go home.

Reading comprehension is not your friend. The women are CURRENTLY paid more than the men. woman guaranteed 165K a year plus benies. Men guaranteed ZERO per year.

Facts are your friend. This is all about nothing but a social justice snowflake campaign. Truth hurts.

The women also get healthcare while the men's team doesn't. The men make more professionally than the women. But the primary argument is over bonuses, sponsorship $ and FIFA $. The losing men's team makes more than a winning women's team because of the popularity of men's soccer. When one gender gets 3.5B watching and the other gets 1B that translates to enormous differences in revenues, not matter the win/loss record.

Both sides will slice the numbers to make their case

My suggestion is to make everything equal. Eliminate salaried positions for all players, as well as free healthcare. Make the bonus system the same. Divide payouts on equal percentage of revenue, not counting FIFA revenue which should be decided by FIFA. In terms of revenue, merch should be easy enough to figure out, as well as money generated from corporate sponsorships. Just simplify the process. MLS and NWPL should not be used to play USNT players, so eliminate it. Let the leagues/teams pay the players, not USSF.

Make it equal! Then let's hear what the women have to say about the terms when things are equal.

Calling the Women’s soccer made for American TV special a World Cup is a sad joke. Most nations in the world do not have women’s soccer teams and many nations do not permit their females to play soccer.

I trust the USMNT knows a bit more about FIFA and USSF dealings and they even agreed with USWNT and released a statement regarding the disparity in pay, again the US men’s team agreed with the women’s stance and in solidarity with their plight. It is so easy to dismiss women’s pay on an anonymous chat, but these players stand as one USA TEAM and want to see Equality. 👏

The team who makes more, earns more. This year the mens team did not play in a big tournament but the women did, so the women earned more. But in any other year the men would make more because they EARN more.

To FIFA's credit they are trying to change that. Granted, they're doing it more for long term financial reasons than anything else, but they are investing and expanding the # of teams in the WC. Problem is much of it was so bad this year. Hard to build a fan base for weak soccer, even among soccer fans (unless your country is playing)

Where were you last month when this was the topic of conversation all over the US? They absolutely have very strong support for equal treatment. Americans love winners. Most who watched know nothing about soccer or the intricacies of the CBA the team agreed to or how FIFA works. They just know the women won and the men didn't even qualify. That's exactly why the team filed when they did. They were pretty certain they would win and a win would force USSF to do something. In other words, good PR move.

                              Being a homophobe doesn't mean you're correct.
