And Rhode Island thought they had it under control, just like Connecticut

The trends in Rhode Island are worrisome.
For more than a month, Rhode Island had not seen a day of more than 77 new cases of the coronavirus.

This week, cases began to move upward. On Monday, the number of daily new cases jumped to 111 cases — the highest number of new cases since June 4.

On Saturday, Central Falls officials warned that they are seeing a significant spike of new cases. Central Falls has been one of the hottest-of-hot-spots in the United States. Approximately 5% of Central Falls residents have tested positive — 188% higher than the Rhode Island state average of 1.7%.

“We are seeing a quadrupling of positive cases in the last few days, although it was associated with a huge increase with the demand for testing at the Dexter Street site,” said Chief Health Strategist for the City of Central Falls, Dr. Michael Fine.

“The percentage test positive has doubled. This suggests vigorous community spread in the city and close by communities,” said Fine, who is the former Rhode Island Director of Health and appears each weekday on GoLocal LIVE

The Gov. of Georgia is the in the running for dumbest person on earth. He's neck and neck with the Gov's of Texas and Florida.
Waiting for all the news articles on camps that were held with no outbreaks. Wait, you mean the news doesn't report those? All they report is ONE camp in GA that had an outbreak. No way.

COVID-19 Cases Continue to Surge astronomically

there were more than 1,000 deaths from the coronavirus in the United States and infections haven't shown signs of significantly slowing, according to the COVID Tracking Project. More than 145,000 people in the country have died from the virus and more than 4,000,000 people have been infected, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

New daily cases are increasing in 46 states. Among them are California, which reported its highest number of single-day deaths on Thursday. In Indiana there were 934 new cases and 11 deaths on Saturday and Montana reported its highest daily number of cases on Saturday with 224 new cases.

Louisiana reported more than 2,000 new cases, 29 deaths and 15 hospitalizations on Friday alone, NOLA reported. In total, there are more than 103,000 cases and 3,600 deaths in the state, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. In response to the increase, Gov. John Bel Edwards extended phase two of the state's reopening for another 28 days.

"It is clear that COVID is alive and well in Louisiana, and as we see more people testing positive and admitted to hospitals, we simply are not ready to move to the next phase, and ease restrictions further as businesses open widely," Edwards said in a statement.

Mississippi, another state experiencing an uptick of cases, imposed a mask mandate on multiple additional counties, on top of the original 13 counties that already had mask mandates, this week. On Saturday, the state saw 1,434 new cases and 17 new deaths. In total, the state has more than 49,000 cases and 1,400 deaths.

"We are still in the middle of our most painful period of COVID-19 spread to date," Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said Friday, according to the Sun Herald. "We have to slow the spread to prevent our health care system from becoming overwhelmed."

Over the past 24 hours, there have been nearly 2,000 additional cases in Alabama. Currently, there are more than 76,000 cases in the state and 1,400 deaths, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Nevada just had its deadliest week from the virus. In total, there have been 41,816 cases and 732 deaths in the state, according to the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services.

Arizona reported more than 3,700 new COVID-19 cases and 144 more deaths on Saturday. On average, the state has seen some decline in the number of cases since spikes in June and early July.

Here's one that seemed to take all the right precautions, but still had 80 cases

Or this one in South Dakota with over 60 cases. https://www.usnews.com/news/best-sta...ases-from-camp

Sure there's plenty of camps that stayed Covid free - but not without a ton of precautions as discussed here https://www.nationalgeographic.com/s...d-will-be-cvd/

The majority of camps didn't even open this year (the national association said 80% did not open this summer). Camps often required staff to quarantine two weeks before starting and many required campers have negative tests less than 72 hours prior to arrival. Neither of those two critical pieces will happen when school resumes.

                    COVID-19 Spread
COVID-19 outbreaks at day camps and sleepaway camps are throwing yet another wrench in summer plans across the U.S.
Unfortunately for camp counselors, this summer there’s more to deal with than inter-cabin drama (“Madyson took my tie-dye and she says it’s hers but I know it’s mine because in the corner I dripped the red on top of the blue to make purple and she did blue over red, so—”). Summer camps across the country have been forced to close after staffers and campers alike tested positive for COVID-19—even at facilities that say they are taking extra safety precautions.

According to a poll from CampMinder, 62 percent of summer camps opted to remain closed this year. For the ones that decided to take extra precautions and soldier on, the rollout has been bleak.

Some camps have thrown in the towel at the first sign of a COVID-19 outbreak. In St. Cloud, Florida, a city day camp shuttered operations this week after a staffer tested positive for COVID-19. In Plano, Texas, a day camp closed for the summer on Tuesday after four people—two staffers and two campers—tested positive for COVID-19.

Other camps have opted to remain… let’s say... “optimistic.” In Manasquan, New Jersey, a day camp run by the city’s beach and recreation department “paused” operations after “several” workers (they have not made the exact number public) tested positive for COVID-19, with more test results from campers and staffers still pending. Two summer day camps in Sarasota County, Florida, closed for two weeks after a camper tested positive at one, while a staffer exhibited symptoms at another.. Three employees, including two counselors, tested positive for COVID-19 while working at a YMCA overnight camp in O’Fallon, Illinois

Then there are the bigger outbreaks that cast serious doubt on the idea that camps should be open at all this year. Eighty-two cases of COVID-19 have been linked to a single sleepaway camp in Lampe, Missouri, which shut down after 41 people tested positive. According to NPR, campers and staffers who later tested positive headed home to “at least 10 states and to multiple counties in Missouri.” In Georgia, 85 confirmed cases in counselors and campers emerged from two separate YMCA overnight camps, since shut down; initial reports misstated the number of cases to somewhere around 30.

The Washington Post pointed out that the Missouri camp, Kanakuk K-2, took “extraordinary” precautions when it came to pandemic safety, even installing a new air filtration system in every cabin as part of its 31-point plan. According to the Post, “its precautions included documented health screenings; daily temperature checks; highly qualified doctors and nurses; hand sanitizer in all buildings; limited access to camp grounds for outsiders; elaborate quarantine protocols; rigorous cleaning; and stringent limits on touching.” Evidently, all of these precautions were not enough to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Kids and parents alike desperately need the kind of benefits that summer camp can provide, especially as the prospect of safely reopening schools looks more and more remote. Working parents need relief from providing constant childcare while juggling a job. Kids need to go outside, find an “arrowhead” in a river, and learn how to tie a square knot! But, because the government has failed to prioritize children and a federal and state level, summer camp has become another thing we can count out thanks to COVID-19.

Two other GA camps closed https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyl...by-coronavirus

"According to the American Camp Association, about 26 million kids normally participate in camps throughout the United States each year. Now, the camp association estimates that 19.5 million young people will miss out on the in-person day and overnight camps this year because of the pandemic, but 6.5 million children are still expected to attend. "https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/summer-camps-nationwide-shut-down-by-coronavirus

Summer camps are smaller operations. Kids are outside most of the time. What happens when larger schools re-open and kids and teachers are inside? It's not going to go smoothly thats for sure, but hopefully flareups can be contained. Otherwise it's going to be a very long fall with everyone home again. Sigh....

Today is 8/3. 24 days past peak cases.
Seems reasonable that we would be at peak deaths now.
                        Deaths should drop this week.
Glad the numbers are better then April.
