NPL Finals vs NPL Cup Finals

There appear to be 2 competing NPL Finals - July 14-18 and another called NPL National Cup XV July 22-25.

What's the difference between these - seems a bit redundant - just trying to understand the league a little for future reference.

One is for state cup winners, the other is for NPL league winners.

      Far as I can tell,

NPL finals are for the team that finishes first in their league in the regular season. For example, that was GPS MA for U17 boys. NPL Cup finals are for teams who finish first in their state cup. In some areas, the state Cup winners then go to a regional playoff to make nationals. In New England this year, they went straight through to Nationals. So In U17 boys, Aztecs won cup in MA, after coming in 4th in Regular season. GPS NH Win there and CSU in CT, two teams who finished even lower in the regular season.

Can only speculate as to which "Nationals" has greater talent. Could say Cup Nationals watered down by some les-competitive states. Could argue that many world series, super bowl, Stanley cup, etc. winners were not the teams with the best regular-season record.

That's an odd setup. You'd think they'd just combine them into a single final and let them play to a single winner. Does the national winner of the league competition play the state cup winner or would that be too logical?

from us club website: The NPL Finals – formerly known as the NPL Champions Cup – features the champions of all 19 NPLs across the United States in the U-13 through U-18 boys and girls age groups. Teams play group games before advancing to knock-out rounds to determine the NPL national champion in every age group.

looks like in the GU14 NE NPL, NEFC and Oakwood decided not to go letting GPS represent the league

NPL Nationals is supposed to be better. State cup winners who don't win NPL often don't go to the national cup.

Above statement does not compute for me. Is this not what all these teams play for all year?
Just skip it makes no sence.

                    NEFC teams

Question for NEFC parents: Are you staying for 1 or both weeks? Probably depends on each team, was wondering if Premier teams are substituting?

It actually makes perfect sense if you follow soccer. Most soccer organizations have two championships--one for winning the league and one "cup" tournament. The league winners are usually based on the full season schedule, while the "cup" is a knockout tournament that is typically something close to a series of single elimination rounds. Just about every major soccer league has this structure. Winning either is impressive. Most teams, if given a choice, would rather win the league championship b/c it shows strength over the long haul. Odd things can happen in a cup tournament, as a single upset can knock out a great team. But the most impressive thing to do is to win the "double"--both.

NEFC GU14 did not win State Cup this year, so they are just going to the NPL Finals which is the first week. After doing back to back week in Indy last year, I'm pretty certain not too many parents are too upset to only be there one week this year.

Try it's called a joke and a double money grab.winning the double would mean you beat some weak regional NPL teams and some second rate second tier state cup champs. Let's get real here people. Just another club soccer scam.

Complete waste of money. Only a couple of competitive teams in each age group.
