Crusaders: Another club selling the scam?

OCDman just reminded everyone in the Stars thread of two things:

1- That other clubs don't get enough criticism
2- That the Crusaders took a low level U15 team down to the Orange Classic last year

Given the recent spat of threads talking about club soccer being a scam, Perhaps it is time to examine why a club would encourage a team as undistinguished as the Crusaders 94/95 Navy group to fly down to Florida for a Christmas vacation tournament. That is one of the more expensive times of the year to travel to Florida and that team is a middle of the pack MAPLE D1 team. Currently they are ranked 11th in the state. Is this simply an example of a group of parents exercising their free will to spend their money how they want or is this an example of a club feeding a group of parents a whole bunch of koolaide?

Do you think the parents didn't know the team was ranked 11th in the state?

Thanks for this btdt! And to think someone thinks Cyberman should be banned. Here is another perfect example of btdt's poison. He must think all of the Crusaders parents are MR and live in a group home...just getting duped and exploited all the time. And why in the heck is a parent of a NT player worrying himself about these matters? And. btw, btdt, thanks for confirming again that it was you who had an erection for 94/95 Crusaders Navy. And, I almost forgot, thanks for starting yet another thread! But, hey, you're perfectly normal and not obsessive at all. Why don't stand by the border and prevent the Crusaders and their ilk from passing through the state lines.

Once again you are scape goating. Ever consider that you might have angered someone with your posts in the Breakers thread? The timing of posts in other threads combined with knowledge of where people live narrows things down quite a bit and puts a spotlight on the stench that is coming from that part of the state. Why not discuss the clubs there?

Maybe another thread on the McDonalds of club soccer, NEFC, should be started. Over a billion dreams sold and counting.

Wait, when did he "have an erection" for the now U18 team crusaders team?

That trip had to cost each family a couple of thousand dollars. Wonder who picked up the coaches travel expenses?

To paraphrase a certain someone, just take a step back for a moment, and think about the amount of disrespect that is entailed in characterizing the participation of thousands of families with various clubs as a "scam." And to do this over and over, with the word prominent in multiple threads. This betrays an incredible lack of respect for all of the families, many of them very well-educated and very aware of what they are doing and what their expectations are, and as much or more lack of respect for the vast majority who work very hard provided the service. And then to know that most of this is coming from the person who has engaged the "industry" to excesses most of us could not even fathom. The ugliness and duplicity needed to pull this off is mindboggling.

                      That is a good question.

What are the club fees for CSU?

How many tournaments does it include and how are the coach's travel expenses covered?

Here are a couple more questions.

What was the reasoning given for going to such an expensive tournament?

Are there any college prospects that might have benefitted from making the trip.

Back to giving oneself a pat on the back and responding to your own posts again.

Here's a guess....It was Florida. [You've done the Orange Bowl before, right?]. The families all agreed it would be nice to get away during the winter and play some soccer. Hardly any college coach contact resulted. We didn't care. We still had a blast. Spent roughly (probably less) the same amount of money we were planning to spend on a Holiday season trip anyway.

That trip is a example of what many see as a huge problem in club soccer. There was once a time when only the top one or two teams in the state would even consider making such a trip. It may not be part of an actual scam but discussing the rationale behind it should speak volumes about the mindset that over run club soccer and explain why costs have sky rocketed. How does a group of educated parents collectively make that decision? What did they see as the end game?

Seems someone at least got OCDman's club affiliation right. Explains a lot of the ugliness coming from that area.

btdt, as you've been told MANY times, not all of us live our lives with an "end game."

That said, didn't you go to the Orange Bowl with a team that wasn't the top 1 or team in the state??? Oh, that's right, you were pissed because you had to stay behind for basketball practice with a bunch of crap kids who didn't put out a good effort.
