youth sports also has this process. On our club team, 35% do not pay anything and another 10% pay a fraction. How does a club survive, by letting the wealthy pay.
Agree, that's all most of your kids are good for. Paying the freight for the real players.

My first post on this thread.

There is 0.0% chance of it being dismantled. In fact, they are increasing the academy clubs and age groups. The OP has no idea what they are talking about.

First, my son is not paying for anyone. I am.
Second, it is a means to an end. I pay for my son's training. If it makes him a better soccer player then great. If he plays well in high school then great. If it, in anyway, helps him get into a better college then mssion accomplished for us. If he plays in college then great.

My son plays because he likes it and it is great exercise. He meets other kids and, from time to time, we get to travel together. All in all a great experience. When it is no longer fun or productive for him he will find something else to do.

In the mean time, I am full aware that my money might help the club on different levels, and that includes bringing in kids that wll not have to pay. Good for those kids. If it makes the team better and my son continues to play then great for all. If my son gets replaced and he is not playing and no longer enjoys it then he will find another team or something else to do. The club can find the money from another.

This is how the world works. For 99.9% of the players it will be about getting the best education then can get and getting the best job they can get. If others want to continue to ride on my son's coattails then so be it, but it will ultimately be because my son, who attended a great school, continued to get great training, got a great job....and ultimately offered these others a job. For this, I don't mind paying for the training that got him there. Perhaps he will even offer these 'inner-city' kids jobs.....but they will have to have had great training, travelled to the interview, earned the position, and figured out a way to get to and from work on their own.

A rare intelligent post on this forum.

That's probably the dumbest thing I've read all day.

Then you either live in a socialistic enclave where the government controls the money and deals it out equally regardless of who earned what, or you have no clue at all.

Do you think any of the current clubs, that have displayed a modicum of success, would exist without enough families paying the full fee, which in turn allows the club to function and offer scholarships, while paying for whatever overhead the club has taken on? Alternatively, do you think that Obama has decreed that part of the government tax revenue should pay for all club youth sports, therefore, you are not able to understand why the clubs are not going to search the 'inner-city' for the gems that are obviously lost. By the way, there are many many economically challenged families that do not live in the 'inner-city', so please don't exclude them. I know many who have been very thankful for the wealthier families/parents who have helped pay their way, given rides to and from, and invited them to stay at the hotels in order to accommodate and keep their economic issues separate form playing a great game.

Accommodating the less well off already happens. Perhaps it is simply not appreciated at all. At some point, however, those who are benefitting from the paying families have to contribute something other than their God-given talent.....like figuring out how to get to tryouts and practices. The kids I know have done so, so for anyone to come on to this forum and say it is not happening is somewhat pathetic and ignorant. Opportunity exists and kids/families have to seek them out, earn them, and then even share them.

Again, I'm only an 18 year old college student but you're seriously avoiding the real problem here. The problem has nothing to do with people pushing for a more socialistic society. It may APPEAR that way because the the pool of rich people is getting smaller and the pool of unemployed and poor people is increasing. If everyone made 100k a year and lived happily, there would be no apparent push for a larger government. The uneasy push you see towards for a more socialistic America is only a testament to how disillusioned we are at the current state of our nation. People are unemployed, college tuition is through the roofs and the days of conservative, right-wing backwards thinking is behind us. We've moved on, face it. The issue has nothing to do with rich families having to pay more to support poorer families. Can we please look at the bigger picture here? The problem is the unnecessary divide between the rich and poor.

I don't think it's too overly difficult to implement a system where every kid has a opportunity to play a sport such as soccer without having to worry about finances. Given that he has the skills necessary to compete.

Your soccer for free problem can be solved easily by playing Town Soccer and HS soccer. No cost to you there, my budding little libtard -no one has a "right" to play club soccer. As for you grabbing someone else's hard earned money to even things out, try looking for a job first. Maybe two.

If the gap between the rich and poor continues to widen (as it has been -exponentially), something several magnitudes worse than the French Revolution will happen in this country within the next three decades. You and your rich, ultra greedy friends may find yourselves hungry and on the street. If you're lucky, your limbs will be spared.

Ok, I will look out for the guillotines and practice my French. Now go back and count your government handouts, you whiny turd.

I don't rely on government handouts, dbag. I just happen to be a history scholar. As a matter of fact, I could probably buy you ten times over.

Sure you do. History scholar, billionaire, college student, soccer player, soccer parent. Whatever you say. Time for your meds

You sound more like a Poly Sci Major from Tufts. Of course, you just finished a course and are quoting your professor verbatim. What is more telling about you is this post. You have been brought up with a silver spoon and have little idea what it is like to be one of the 'inner city' kids or one who is struggling economically. You and the Nancy Pelosis of the world sit up in the Ivory Tower and look down upon the rest with solutions that will not ever affect your 'billionaire' family that could 'buy [me] ten times over'. Your arrogance, clearly reflective of your parents and the aristocratic company you keep, will never allow you to truly experience what it takes to go from nothing to something via your own efforts.
That said, there are many free opportunities on many levels of life. They are available in varying degrees to everyone whether they be wealthy or not. This is called equality. For those who want more, it should be earned or sought out instead of handed out. The latter never allows one to truly appreciate where the 'gift' came from.....instead, many only want to know when the next free handout is coming. Once the free stuff is there, as you suggest it be, it is a never ending process. This is how Democrats buy their votes. During your education try to understand what low income voters look for in their officials. It is not at all what might be best for the country. Instead it is welfare, EBT cards, public housing etc etc. These were the results of polls taken last week among Florida's low socio-economic and 'inner-city' families.

How this applies to soccer?? Same principle. The opportunities are there for those who seek them out. For such persons, success is earned, sweet, better appreciated, and cherished.

Historical examples have already taught us that if you bring 'it' to the front door and spoon feed the sweets to people....just to show them how good it could be... but then, after recognizing that it is not practical to continue spoon feeding the sweets, you will find that, despite having shown people what stuff taste like, they will not seek it out no matter how close you build the company to them.

Town soccer and high school soccer are fee and available to all. Club soccer has made themselves available, and run clinics to anyone interested (free and not free), but thereafter, it is best to let families seek it out and get themselves involved. This is a sweeter and long-lasting solution.
