2. GPS-MA NPL
3. SCORPIONS BU17ELITE
4. WESTERN UNITED PIONEERS FC RED
5. FC STARS OF MASSACHUSETTS NPL
6. LIVERPOOL FSC 1997 BOYS RED
7. SF VIKINGS BOMBERS
8. HAMMER FUTBOL HAMMER FC
9. FORZA UNITED RED THUNDER 97/98
10. BENFICA USA BU17 97/98
As for the Red Thunder thing earlier, please - they are not #4 and may not be in the top 10. They drew 2-2 last season with Liverpool. This is how it went down:
- LFSC scored two quality goals. Enjoyed 70% possession.
- MAPLE referee issues rampant in this game - a horrible center ref who had no business refereeing U16 players with no linesmen. Guy was a joke - called fast LFSC striker offsides several times despite being 25 yards behind the play. Yes Mr. Referee - he's just fast, he wasn't offsides.
- Red Thunder scored twice - LFSC centerback slips like Gerrard against Chelsea last season and their striker gets a breakaway one on one with GK; second goal - long Red Thunder pass played over the top and right back to LFSC GK who scoops it up off the ground, Red Thunder striker continues his run and collides with GK. GK to protect himself and the ball that he has clear possession of swings his arms up and accidentally clocks the striker. Foul called against GK, no card given, PK awarded to Red Thunder which they score on. This was their two goals. Aside from those, they had one other shot which wasn't even on goal. At no time was this match even remotely close. Cost LFSC the division title.

Hammer was relegated to D2 at the end of U15 by Liverpool and are newly promoted, so we'll see. The last two seasons, SSU has finished 3rd in MAPLE behind the Vikings and Liverpool.

GPS lost 1-0 against Benfica, Benfica had one shot on net, GPS should have won or tied, the goalie for the other team stopped the tying penalty, the goalie is the only good player on the team.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostIt's early in the NPL season but Western United is struggling. Stars are the surprise. GPS has convincingly beaten two weaker teams. After this weekend it will be clearer amongst the NPL teams. There are some tough match ups. GPS/NEFC, Scorpions/Bayside.

Some strange results this weekend. Benfica upsets GPS then gets crushed by CFC. GPS rebounds and ties a very talented NEFC. Scorpions beats a strong Bayside team 3-0 then drops one to Aztecs. Take away form this weekends play is that all teams can compete in the U17 NPL which is good thing for this division.

I've watched a ton of soccer at this level and played with and against pretty much every player in this age group. From a squad standpoint NeFC is far and way the best. They are more talented than anybody else, but lack a bit of defensive stability at Cemterback. They are also hurt by constant tinkering from the coaches. Stars is definitely punching below their weight and I'm not sure why. Mps is solid and will continue to be. Everybody else has a shot, but is considerably weaker than these 3
