Hate to break it t you , but it’s 2018, most of the high school jobs you mention from the 60 and 70s are no longer around or are alr day taken by lower skilled, recently arrived immigrants...
No one wants to earn by shoveling snow - no offers at all last storm - no teen, no immigrant, no soccer players, no boys, no girls, no men, no women- not a soul.

My poor players had to do it for a slice of pizza and it was good for them.

Shoveling snow in FL. A great money making idea.

I worked as a cook in 1982 while in high school at the local diner, go have a high school kid ask for a partime job as a cook today —- lol

That's part of a broader economic issue - as adults have been pushed out of the lower end of the "traditional" job market (manufacturing but other areas also) they're taking jobs that teens and college students traditionally had - fast food, service jobs, low end retail etc. I made good money in retail in high school and college (decent hourly rate plus commission). Now that industry pays nothing, stores are closing and almost all are adults, not young adults.

So bringing back traditional jobs for low educated adults will give them some sort of employment and open up fast food, retail jobs etc to younger people. What a great concept! How do we get companies to stay in America or come back?

Then our kids can go back to getting part time jobs and helping out with club fees?

My kid works. Most of his friends have jobs. All of them are in high school. All of them use that money to help offset car expenses for the most part. Some is being saved for college.

Please tell us what type of job allows them to work once a week and sometimes on the weekends? If ur kid is in DA , they practice 4 days a week and games most weekends. Are they working the midnight shift?

At $10/hour you can't begin to work enough hours to make a dent in college tuition. Some of your personal expenses, sure but not tuition

Any savings for college is for general spending. We did prepaid, they got bright futures and offers of academic $. Plan early and put grades above all. We sleep well at night. Soccer is for fun. Isn't that what it is supposed to be? Or did we allow the adults to ruin the game for our kids?
