    GDA and High School

Seriously, some of you need to get a life. Who the hell cares whether a GDA player plays for her high school? If anything, you should be happy that some of these better players are playing, that's one less rec-level or below player on the field that's not out there hacking.

I don't see the issue, if they attend the high school and they play soccer, why shouldn't they be allowed? As an opponent you should want to face better players, that only makes you better.

My daughter plays in a district, with 2-3 good teams and 4 teams that are just plain horrible. She gets so much more out of playing (and losing) against those better players on the good teams than she does scoring 3-4 goals against those horrible teams.

A simple solution would be for DA to allow Hs but if u miss Any practices Bc of HS , then come up with consequences... after a week or two of 2 a days , even though HS is not really training , most serious soccer girls would walk away from HS soccer

At my daughter's school, girls that miss practice sit the first quarter (waterbreak) If it were my kid, she'd miss school practice (which is a joke) and go to her GDA/club training instead. Let her sit out the first 20 minutes of her HS game and thats that.

Which won't leave many players left in GDA. Seriously, not many girls take soccer seriously. Which is also why GDA should be half it's size if not smaller.

If GDA players come late to HS then so can ECNL or any players.

The high school coaches taking on the GDA players two months late are the trailblazers for the future of high school soccer. ECNL and higher level club Travel leagues will require their players to not do high school season and to train with the club longer, and then join the HS teams just in time to get in the 10 minimum game HS requirement. Then the ECNL Showcase should be aligned with the GDA showcase to be in December right before the D1 college women's recruitment dead period. All the club players can finish the fall season and the December showcases to get recruited for college, and then go enjoy high school soccer.

That scenario is FL specific. Most other states play fall or spring.

Well perhaps U.S. Soccer GDA, U.S. Club Soccer will begin to drive the high school calendar, and force a consistent U.S. high school calendar.

                        OMG!

High school soccer is awful. Stop believing it is important.

It is terrible quality and there is less people in the stands watching then at a typical club game. It's crazy that a few make it such a big deal.

yeah sure. The states couldn't give a **it about USSF. More importantly isn't the point that USSF doesn't want players doing HS soccer? So why would they try and get states to conform to them?

I've had three kids now do club and HS and totally disagree. Club games have only some parents (most often just one parent per player and that's if they can't carpool) and a few siblings who get dragged along. Once kids are old enough to drive themselves it drops even more. HS games right after school have ok attendance but many parents have to work and other students have activities. Night or weekend games do well, and bigger events like senior night and playoffs do very well. No it isn't football numbers and it never will be but that's part of the lack of a soccer culture in this country.

However, more importantly the desire to play HS soccer isn't about fans in the stands (although that is fun). It's about representing your school, playing with lifelong friends, getting your name in the paper, team swag, getting a high five in the hallway from a classmate, winning awards. It may seem childish to an adult but it's perfectly natural for teenagers. If your kid doesn't want to play HS that's fine - many aren't great quality and some players are dedicated to the sport and want year round training. But the reality is nearly a million kids , including many top players, play HS soccer for a reason - they want to
