Wasn’t Horan overweight when she showed up to PSG? So the coach told her to lose it?

Wow, hiring a fat-shamer. Can't wait for the statements from Teresa, Annie, Amy, etc on this and how it fits with the academy branding: "Come train with us and our head coach who fat shamed Lindsey Horan when she was a high schooler playing for PSG." The Lyon partnership is off to a *great* start. UW track coach got fired for body-shaming a couple years ago...

When a male professional athlete shows up for team practice overweight and is told to lose weight, we shrug and say “that’s expected, they are paid athletes, they are supposed to be in shape”. When a female professional athlete shows up for team practice overweight and is told lose weight , we call that “fat-shaming”? Nicely exemplifies the long road ahead before female athletes get their due. Something new, how about supporting your local female professional soccer team on this blog? That would be an interesting thread as well.

As if the Reign Academy didn't have enough image/reputation issues in the Puget Sound region for poaching players from other clubs (remember the little "love note" that Teresa Predmore blasted out to all of Washington Youth Soccer?), this hire will absolutely will not help.

But perhaps this is coming down from the new French overlords.

You’re commenting on a photo of what was then a 17 year old girl. Are you seriously suggesting that commenting on her weight or telling her to get thinner would be an appropriate coaching technique? There obviously are perfectly legitimate weighs to stress the importance of fitness and incorporate healthy eating habits and fitness into a training regime, but that ain’t it.

In case you don't understand biology, women naturally hold more body fat than men. Did you read the article? She beat her teammates in a fitness test at the time she was told to lose weight, and she suspected it some of it was about the image desired by the powers that be.

For everyone concerned about this issue, be aware that a top female SU coach criticized some of her ECNL players last year for "cellulite." The problem is pervasive.

I guess you missed the part in the article that says ...

“more [about] how you were seen and not how it was helping you play.” Horan told the New York Times that the PSG coaching staff told her she was benched until she lost weight despite beating teammates in a fitness test

Time to get over how women look and start evaluating them on performance.

Your obsession with the SU 03/U17 team and the Reign Academy is showing again.

Well, I appreciate that she isn't all tatted up with neck tattoos or sleeves. Back in the day folks called these gals, "big boned". How do you say woke in French? Sheesh.

Several big conference universities incorporate monitored weight and nutritional management into their women's soccer programs. One of the reasons many freshmen don't get a lot of playing time is because coaches are having the players get in the weight room to put more muscle mass on and lean out (reduce fat) to be bigger, faster, and stronger on the pitch. Most coaches want players to be as fit as possible. Being fit and being optimally fit are two different things.
