Some are August, some September, October, and December. Their is no consistent cut-off across all school systems so as soon as you put a line in the sand, someone on the wrong side of it won't be happy.

Sounds like you’re a sharp mind and you’ve got it all figured out. So let us know how it will shape up then.

Technically sure, by date only. There are so many other reasons why we're behind the rest of the world. This is way, way, way down the list of importance

It’s called life! Deal with it. Bunch of cry babies on here. It’s maddening.

Birth year is the only fair way to do it country-wide. Sorry, hurts some kids in the shoulder seasons but you can't quibble with the year of your birth as the delineation.

                Easy, tough guy.

That's the point I'm making. No matter which one is used, it won't make everyone happy.

Wasn’t being a tough guy at all. Just calling it like I see it. I agree, you cannot possibly make everyone happy in any scenario. Again, it’s life, deal with it.

"Most" schools start between 8/15 to early September. Make it start 8/1 or even 7/15 and make allowances for kids who get cut out by having a state form filled out or something - in other words a little common sense. The system worked by and large before with very few kids getting blocked out, especially compared to how many get screwed now.

Nobody getting "screwed". It's youth soccer for fvcks sake.

Younger 8th graders have to find somewhere to play in the fall while their HS freshman teammates have HS soccer for almost 3 months. Then those same kids watch their older teammates graduate from HS and have to finish their club soccer careers on cobbled together teams, if they can find a team to play on at all.

Be honest, you mean fair for your kid. This isn't about being fair. There is no fair way to do it. No matter when they do the cutoff some kids are going to benefit from RAE over others. This is about setting-up a system that offers the fewest headaches & allows everyone to have a team to play on.

In most states, a full third of the kids have no team to play on in the 8th grade. And Senior year is a mess, with kids in the 11th & 12th grade having to shift teams. Also, it's better for everyone to have high schoolers play against the kids in the same graduation class, as these are the kids they are competing against for scholarships.
