That is a lot -- seems weird.

Original post said it was ECNL, not DA. if that's true about Sounders, a gap year would not really be taking spots from other kids since all the players are recruited to be on the team in the first place.A lot of the players aren't even from Seattle. Those kids know when they joing that they're always gonna be competing for the roster. Maybe some players being encouraged to stay and try to develop to make the Sounders semi-pro team or something? They've signed a few Academy kids.

        Is this happening in ECNL?

Maybe the DA kids are switching over to a ECNL and the original OP was putting out feelers? I know sports-driven gap years do happen but it’s typically basketball players.

There are a handful of 2020 uncommitted players from Sounders.

There are 11 2021 Sounders graduating next year.

If four players decided to do this gap year thing to play Sounders again, and the logic is everyone has to compete for a spot, wouldn't this mean for some in the lower aged group boys (2021) will likely get screwed during their recruiting year (senior year)? Maybe this is why the poster who is the Sounders parent said maybe next year 8 will take a gap year. Sounds like a bad cycle to be in. Even worse would be for those boys to all show up at another clubs tryout that will surely screw the other clubs rising class. For all the complaints on here about club loyalty "especially during recruiting year", some parents must only complain when it impacts one of their kids but not the other. They don't mind at all screwing another player's recruiting prospect.

This doesn't make sense. Sounders isn't pay to play

What does taking a gap year have to do with pay to play? Players leave free clubs like XF and Sounders to pay-to-play clubs.

If you're saying Sounders kids are staying at Sounders for a gap year and taking spots away, it doesn't make sense. You don't pay to play Sounders -- kid could only take a gap year and keep playing if Sounders wanted them to stay. I guess if you think kids are leaving Sounders and paying to play at another club for a gap year, you could get mad about other kids getting screwed, but has that actually happened

Wow those top-drawer ratings are incredibly inaccurate. I see one kid listed who doesn't even really play soccer anymore, not to mention lots of kids listed under "Sounders" who haven't been there in years.

Yeah, if I understand right, you get a listing on TDS two ways:

                      1. Create your own player account

                      2. Randomly get scouted and written up by TDS folks who dole out the stars

I think the commitments are mostly player-reported. Maybe the TDS people do some research also? No idea. But yeah, there's kids listed there who are now at other clubs
