Question on birth year vs school year

When it was school year was there still gap kids. What happened to kids that were born in June and started late in school. How did soccer handle them. Would that not have been the same problem we have now.

Back in school year, Those kids would have been trapped players, still in high school and able to play with proof they were still in high school. The kids who had graduated mostly would’ve aged outa day not been able to get a player card. Could take a gap year before college but couldn’t play on club team anymore (too old). Birth year caused all the Jan through July born kids to essentially get pushed down to the lower age group teams, playing with the grade below fall born kids. That created the issue of them still being eligible to play club one more year after they graduate high school. Not the fall born kids because they have to play up with the grade above and will have aged out after they graduate.

This was a tiny fraction of kids. And what kind of parents hold their kids back because they were born in summer? That was a decision they made, not something imposed upon them. With the calendar year, there are now college freshman playing youth soccer.

It’s nice for the Jan to August born college freshmen to still be able to play club soccer due to birth year. Too bad for the high school juniors and seniors on the u18/u19 teams that are trying to get committed to college. Those college freshmen can have fun and help the high school aged team get some wins.

If a high school junior/senior can't win a spot on the field vs a college freshman who isn't good enough to play college then they are highly unlikely to be recruited to a college team no matter how many showcases they play in.
