Oh look, time to resurrect the yearly conversation on ODP.
Q: Who could be against another opportunity to train, develop, and compete?
Q: Who could be against an alternative pathway to distinction?

A: Parents that pay good money for non-ODP choices

If you are in 8th Grade or older and already on a top club's top team (DA, GA, ECNL) ODP is unnecessary. If you are uLittle, it's yet another opportunity to develop, and if you are in 7th- 8th grade, but not yet able or willing to commit to GA/ECNL, then ODP provides an alternative to earn some badges and exposure that ultimately may help you decide to join in. ODP doesn't hurt anyone, and it can help a few. How could anyone trash ODP?

It’s not worth the trip out to Lancaster. Some overzealous parents might like to brag that their kid plays on ODP, but nobody cares. ODP is just an extra opportunity to play some soccer, if you live nearby.
This above post pretty much sums up ODP to a tee. What is the benefit nowadays playing ODP other than an opportunity for more soccer??

For the player not playing in a high-exposure league and unable to make that commitment for any of the various reasons that exclude many players, ODP will provide them with a pathway for visibility. It's not a perfect replacement, but it can work for some.

An opportunity to play more soccer with a different coach and meet new players. It’s a great experience for the kids. Our son really enjoys the training and playing with kids on other teams he has played against. For the amount of money it costs it’s actually reasonable. If you don’t like it then don’t do it. Seems pretty simple

This is the exact thing wrong with youth soccer today. It's not enough we have players who cannot afford to play in these opulent leagues, but to rub salt in their wounds we have families doing the unnecessary extra credit to supplement what's missing from the leagues.

Talk about a fvcked up system.

Agreed on the capitalism...not on the better. ******* money away doesn't make it better, just more evidence of a fvcked up system.

Into play. If it’s not worth it people won’t pay for it. Dont sign up your kid.. you are just realizing this pay for play model is a mess? Lol

This is boring. Wealth disparity occurs system wide in the US. Why one would put it on soccer to fix I'm not sure?

That said, if you are truly low income there are things you can do to get your kid involved in soccer. There are clubs that have metro based teams with subsidized costs (look at Valeo and Surf. there may be others). And if your kid has skills then most all clubs can subsidize on the regular teams if they want (getting to practices/games can still be an issue). There are also lower cost clubs (AFC is like $1000/year i think. I'm sure there are others)

ODP (keeping on topic) also has fee waiver option for low income families. But the full cost is reasonable. If you _just_ count hours... the winter/spring is $835 for about 33 hours which works out to $25/hour. Compare that to summer soccer camps and clinics.

LOL. $835 may as well be a million for some families. But, if your goal was to show how disconnected to reality one can be, congrats...you nailed it.

But it's a fraction of the price of any alternative.
