Originally posted by Unregistered View PostSorry, if it is a pay to play model, I do not see how this can work. Clubs have already been paid in full if they are charging the kids to play and the parents should receive the payment. Our model is silly and appears to be getting worse if this is true. No way clubs should be allowed to double dip.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostI agree, Clubs should make money by developing players or by charging parents not both! Parents should not be the safety net/insurance policy for clubs. Solidarity payments are the goal and motivation to develop players. By being allowed to take cash from parents is a disincentive to taking too players above a specific bar and overfilling rosters (let’s face it, there is instant gratification and payoff by taking 24 players). This bottom 8 players bring the whole team down during practices and during games. Keep this pure or it becomes a worse system than it is now.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostYes, this ^. Hopefully, the trend we're seeing in residential academies cropping up will continue. If top players from all over the country are consolidated at these academies and regularly compete against other residential academies (or even nearby USL teams), then the country may have more of a chance at producing pro level players. Why did US Soccer discontinue their residential program in FL? Makes no sense to send all those kids back to their regular clubs with only one or two players at that level and little, if any, international competition (during non-covid times). Seems like a step backwards to me.
The MLS academies are producing talent, and they will continue to do so at a greater rate. Pulisic, Reyna, Adams, Mckennie, Richards, Davies (Canada) all got their start in MLS academies and are now playing in Champions League. Not too shabby.

Picking a handful of kids (usually the wrong handful of kids because of politics) will land you where the USMNT is now. Each club is responsible for itself and its own recruiting and development of players .... if they do a good job, they will get paid in spades .... if they do not, they can call themselves the Revs.
