All you need to know about Thorns can be summed up by the fact that they scrimmaged their own ODP teams today. That would be like one of the ECNL teams scrimmaging the team in their same club that is in OYSA - in other words, scrimmaging your own club's B team.
At least when the ECNL clubs scrimmage, they go up against older teams. Guess the Thorns want to be sure they win.

Ecnl clubs? Fc Portland and cu teams participating in that league are terrible. Oh and just so you know, both of those clubs scrimmage against their b and c teams. It would be a detriment to the age group not to.
Don't think because the thorns decided to give the odp teams a friendly means now that fc Portland and cu for some reason now look better.
Given the state of fc Portlands Ecnl teams who have none that are even top 2 in the state of Oregon and Crossfire Oregon who is a joke on all but one age group.
It's pretty laughable at how there is nothing good or being said about fc Portland or cu but a lot from them about everyone else...

In comparison, the Thorns academy is a lone wolf. They say they are the "top of the pyramid" and part of that pyramid which is the TA teams, RTC, and ODP, but it's obvious in their actions that they don't care about the TA clubs. So it makes perfect sense that they would ask the ODP teams to give up a Sunday afternoon and go be pummeled by the academy teams. In fact, the ODP coaches will twist it and use it as marketing to swindle - I mean convince - more ODP players that they are doomed if they don't go to Thorns academy. After all, tryouts are coming, the younger Thorns teams look WEAK, and starters on the older teams are bailing.

I said "at least the ECNL teams don't scrimmage their B teams." Which is true - they don't. Because the two ECNL clubs are responsible not only for the ECNL teams - they have an entire structure of teams at the premier and non premier levels. Allowing their strongest (ECNL) teams to use the weaker teams as practice cones will create hard feelings and damage the health of the club.

GDA isn’t for everyone. It is for the soccer only focused girls that want more exposure and playing out of state. Bonus: our local academy is subsidized making it more affordable and it’s connected to the senior Thorns & NWSL
ECNL isn’t for everyone. It is for the wealthier soccer players that want to play out of state & get more exposure for college without giving up hs soccer or other sports. Bonus: Ecnl teams are part of a club and players can get extra playing time with their club’s OYSA teams & guesting.
OYSA isn’t for everyone. It’s for players that want to play club level soccer, only traveling out of state for FWRL or tournaments. Bonus: train locally and play locally 1/2 the time. Get to play hs soccer, other sports and still time for studies and a social life.
All three of the above have drawbacks as well that TS posters fling back and forth at each other every day. I’m happy our girls have choices and, though they all have drawbacks, they all have bonuses. Oregon soccer isn’t the best but it isn’t the worst either. Here’s to the glass half full and to all the players that have found a happy soccer home in any of the choices. Just because someone else’s shoes don’t fit your foot or your style, doesn’t mean they don’t fit someone else perfectly.
