How would you feel about that? are you okay with that?
Not a Crossfire parent but I think any club soccer parent can answer this. We all subsidize other players. Our TA club gives out nearly $80k in scholarship funds. Every non scholarship family knows that a portion of our fees subsidizes scholarship players. In many cases, scholarship players get more playing time than non-scholarship players. If your coach is playing players according to skill, work ethic, leadership ability...it shouldn't matter whether they are scholarship or not.

So in answer to your question, yes, I'm okay with this because it is our CHOICE to play for a club wih a scholarship program, our choice to pay our fees knowing that a portion of our fees goes to the scholarshp program, and our choice to play for a club where a scholarship player might earn more playing time than my kid.

What I am not okay with is OYSA raising our fees to subsidize thorns academy. It is not our choice to play on a thorns academy team. But yet we are subsidizing those teams. Huge difference.

I'm good with it. We don't live in a socialist country and not everything is "fair" or equal. If those players/families were able to negotiate a deal, then good on them. It's how it works with employment (strongest bargaining power is when you are being offered the job), and in pro sports when contracts are being negotiated. Scholarships exist for those who need financial help. If existing families are put off by "recruiting packages", then it's on them to take it up with the management and try to strike their own deal. I haven't heard of any families being upset and instead are excited about seeing what these news players can bring to the table.

Please know that ALL of Crossfire United ECNL are getting free kits. Not just the "new" players. That was a good deal struck by the club(s) when they changed vendors. My club fees went down, too. I have no complaints.

Lastly, none of the new '03 players (and they aren't all from the same club/team), have joined training yet. I doubt new players on other teams have started training, either. The season doesn't start until June and we still have a couple of games to go for THIS year with the existing team. Calm down.

I feel that bringing in some new, strong players will challenge ALL of the girls to play better. This is ECNL, not club, and we all know that playing time is not guaranteed. It's on the girls to work hard and earn minutes. If you play in ECNL you know this. It's not the same as club soccer so the expectations are different. Is it hard if your kid shows up, works hard, and still doesn't see much playing time? Yes. Certainly. But it's the risk you took when you decided to play on an ECNL team. Time to put on your big girl pants. It's not for everyone.

Please look up the word Fungible.

OYSA card fees have no connection, association or correlation with the funding of the USDA National Dev. Program with the MLS Timbers DA or NWSL Thorns DA.

OYSA does not currently collect league or State cup fees from any member club.

OYSA does collect a nominal fee for a USYS membership player/pass ID card.

OYSA has nothing to do with the operation, funding or admistration of the USDA National level program called MLS Timbers DA or NWSL Thorns DA.

At the club level all the proceeds from a fall development league or a summer tournament could be earmarked for Scholarships, in the end you would need to ask your CLUB how they cover Scholarships. Versus assuming you as a member are actually contributing chances are you are not.

You can only contribute to the MLS Timbers DA or NWSL Thorns DA funding if you pay their nominal participation fee for those selected $500 for Boys & $2000 for Girls.

It's too bad they can't attract a roster full of strong players, but that's your challenge and fate. You are in fact in a local Club, it's not the USDA, it's your local club and whatever leagues, tourney's, camps or showcase you do are decisions made at your local club level. Unlike the USDA where US Soccer tells them when and where they can play during a seasonal year.

Look, dummy. You can spin it however you like. But when my fees are raised, including a card fee increase of 33%, and there is no reason why (did the cost of electricity suddenly go up in Portland? I don't think so), and the academy teams are subsidize to the tune of $6000/player/year, that money comes from somewhere. Just because I don't write a check directly to thorns academy doesn't mean they aren't getting part of my fees.

Bottom line is the OP asked what people think of subsidizing CU players. A few people answered and you obviously didn't like the responses. Can't you just let people be happy with their decisions? If you don't have a kid in CU, why do you even care?

              No Spin, partner.

Conspiracy theories about a flat earth are abundant, when you propose a theory as far fetched as yours must provide evidence to support it, other than the words 'look dummy'.

OYSA has one source of Revenue to run it's operation; Player Card fees, those revenues/fees have nothing to do with the USDA programs at the MLS Timbers or NWSL thorns.

It's akin to you trying to say, the spike in movie pass prices at the regal cinema in your neighborhood is caused by the Portland Trailblazers expenses for it's team in the 'D' league. Got it. That's b@tShltnutZ.

I could care less how any local non-profit club provides subsidizes for it's membership scholarships, that's their business and methodology, part of the mission of nearly all non-profits is to help financially disadvantaged folks creating the opportunity for them to be part of something productive which is admirable and consistent with a Non-Profit model, especially for youth learning life skills through sport. In this case (CU) a local girls club soccer.

Also an 03 CU ECNL parent. Totally agree with above. Glad our DOC went out and aggressively pursued talent to bring in what was needed for an under performing group. Excited to see this group grow. Great job KL. We have Five new impact players. I have had kids involved with this for awhile and have never seen this large of an impact for a team in one year.

If you think those are ALL "impact" players you have low expectations.

I know the age group pretty well. Yes all 5 are impact players. We are extremely happy to have them join our girls.
