Forget the RTC coaches, at this point I'm just curious if the state head coach is going to bother to show up to the second week of tryouts.

The 2001 Boys ODP team was already selected last year and the ODP coaches (East and Westside timbers club coaches) will just keep the same players for this year. The selection process isn't unbiased at all.

The problem is how it is structured, there really shouldn't be a State team tryout, but just have a system of getting the best players from all the clubs and create many All-star teams and have players rotate through them and have many scheduled trainings and games throughout the year. Players as they rotate throughout the state playing with the All-star teams benefit as they are "really" exposed to different coaching styles and strategies on a continuim as opposed to once a year or 2-3 months out of the year.

That guy's not an idiot or a jackass. But he is correct.

Observing the tryouts for the state team. If your from a team that finished in the top 3 you're in the circle to make it. If not you hope your child has the go switch on so they get noticed. The way the kids are split up makes it alittle easy to see who has a better chance to move on. Yes it's easy to say its been predetermined when player's never switch field's for the whole day and the head coach does the same.

                Sickening

At the tryouts in Salem and the same old parents swarming around their buddy coaches.

Talent will be secondary buddy alliances will come to the top.

Funny thing is they wonder way they can't get the good kids to be involved seems they can't see the wood for the trees

Not really. Any championship team tryout is the same. The coach starts with his team, you as the new player have to give the coach a reason to select you over someone they already have. If you can't do that tgere is no reason to change the team.

It means the new folks have to work harder to get noticed, but welcome to the real world. No one is going to sympathize with your cries of "no fair...no fair"

Actually he is both. As are you. But since you are one in the same, you already knew that.

                      Style Of Play

Considering the boys have had 8 weeks of coaching the brand of soccer is bas. Some good kids but too much dribbling and looking the ball. You can also see cliche of players who only want to play between themselves.
                      Can't say it's very good.

                        Process is flawed

There will be a lot of good kids there, but only the state ODP coaches who also coach the U13/U14 teams will only look at their players. It's always about who is in the "coaching circle".

It's time for a different system. There are a lot of talented players in the state and certaintly putting all together and dividing the teams up "evenly" would benefit everyone and you would get a great product especially with good coaching.

So if there has not been a 02 state pool team how can a coach have a team already? I agree with the rest if there was a team prior.

Is watered down now - just like all of OR soccer. Seems like head coaches already know who they're picking so try-outs have been political & basically a joke as far as truly evaluating all the players before picking. Hope the coaches turn it around or even fwer will try out for odp.
Ya it would be nice if they made sure kids could accept a pass or just plain pass a ball properly, heck half of the kids cannot even strike a ball correctly but yet they still get through.

Players can change a lot. RTC/ODP now starts at 2004s. This year the youngest State Pool team is 2002s. Soon, it may go down to U10. By age, the 2002s are currently U12 & U13s. The coaches should definitely start fresh each year to fairly evaluate all players at all these younger ages due to puberty. Maybe start keeping your main team from u16 & on. Keeping or favoring the players they had from the year before will prevent the successive years teams from being made up of the best players possible. Oregon has enough trouble competing vs other states. We desperately need to tap the very best players we can every year. From a financial and soccer participation stand point, if your spot is pretty much a lock once you make the state pool, then all the other players stop trying out. Doesn't make any sense unless the coaches are too lazy or not able/willing to fairly evaluate the players.
